Heard some rumors that the shooter was his son. Family seems to have enough money/clout to be getting discussions erased from social media and details kept out of the news.

From the story it appears it could have been self defense.
Some pretty screwed up "families" out there.

Be interesting to see how this plays out. Seems the person who shot him had the chance to leave if they went to the car to get their gun then returned to some extent to shoot him

“There was a family situation at the house and as one of the people involved were leaving, Don came outside with a pistol, and the other person had a pistol in his car,” Sheriff Swain said. “He got his gun and shot Don one time.”

I read that as 1) there was a "family incident" 2)the deceased came out of his house and pointed his gun at the person in the car, who then fired.

Sounds like the person in the car was leaving the "family incident" and fired in SD. that the LEOs found him trying 1st aid when they showed up doesn't indicate homicidal intent either

There seems to be a lot hush here. Pretty strange for the local rag not to paint this as the fault of the gun.
