It brings me no pleasure (sincerely) for this point to be made evident to gun control advocates in such a sudden and violent way.

Having said that you can bet you rear end as soon as the media can, they'll find a way to prop up the gun control narrative again.

Anyone who thinks gun control efforts are a going to disappear is a fool. Anyone who thinks these events will open the eyes and change the minds of gun control advocates is a fool.

Gun control already makes no sense to one who is able to think critically and objectively about it, yet those who seek to control others still demand it. Nothing about this rioting and looting will change that. They will twist logic into pretzels to be able to justify it.

    .
It's a bankrupt philosophy and always has been. That said, like MCgrease08 says there's a lot of fools that still push it and a lot of fools who believe in it.

It hasnt died, and is just getting more farcical.

The same people telling us we dont need guns, are the same folks talking about disarming cops and disbanding police departments. They are not only telling us we dont need guns, they are also at the same time taking down the folks we would rely on since we wont have guns.

    They are absolute idiots.

I am waiting for the final riot where someone opens fire on the rioters (not the honest peaceful protesters) and the next thing you will here is the "BAN GUNS" mantra being shouted out.

Stopping looters and arsonists requires upping the amount of violence used. Thankfully we have not gotten to that point, but I am sure that with the Covid-19 lock down, there might be a couple of people who has their fuse finally lit by the violent protesters.

No. No it doesnt. Ask my friend:

there is no need for the police to respond in kind. They are using excessive force because they are the subject of the protest. Their emotions are charged, and as a result they are out of control.

Here are some thoughts on how the police should be trained to handle those situation:
    1. De-escalation training
    2. Demilitarization
    3. Police are well trained on how to physically overcome somebody without the use of weapons. They should be doing that if there really is a threat.

Yes, she actually expects Denny, Frank, et al to mosey up to the crowd pelting them with objects and talk it out. And if that doesnt work, physically restrain the protester while his buddies just calmly stand by and watch. :):

The gun control message will not change. It might make a few realize the truth in that those that are proponents of gun control are not trying to protect you, they only seek to protect themselves from you. The gun control morons will push for a British style police system where most cops are not allowed to carry guns. To make that work, they’ll seek the removal of all guns from the public.

The riots and looting are just evidence to those who see themselves as being in power of the idiocy of the general public. This will reinforce the idea that guns need to be removed. The narrative will shift from ‘Only the cops get guns’ to ‘Even the cops can’t be trusted with guns’.

    An ex-GF was against guns.
Then she needed one because of an abusive spouse.
    Now she's against "assault weapons".
I told her, she couldn't imagine needing guns before, and if she had her way, she wouldn't have had that pistol to defend herself.
Just because she can't imagine needing one, doesn't mean that someone doesn't need one.

It won’t be Covid-19 that hurts us, but the Glock-19 used in self defense by a citizen on a (insert here) that brings about more civil unrest and martial law, and more draconian firearms restrictions.

At this rate I hope that the gun control narrative is put on hold for six plus months but I have a feeling given 2-3 months we will see another push for it. They'll be like, "It's for your safety, and the cops will protect you" after forgetting all the drama that we have now.

More like the year gun control got put on the back burner.

No doubt gun control advocates have failed on a large scale this year. They will be back.

I could only wish that those pushing gun control had enough common sense to drop it and move on... But they have never been interested in or influenced by common sense. Gun control in this country won't ever disappear until one of two things happens: 1) the government and our way of life disappears--read "end of days" there, or 2) they win completely. As long as these people have power to reach for by way of gun control, they will NEVER stop.

Meh. Fact is, every single one of those people out in the streets this week voted for grabber candidates last election and will vote straight ticket anti-gun in November. Most have no clue what the current laws are and are confident that any future CommonSense gun control will only affect other people.
