She came over a few days ago and shocked me with these opening words. "I need to get a gun to protect myself"
I about fell to the ground. She is a hard core liberal who has hated firearms for as long as I've known her. Going on 24 years now.
She wanted to see the different types of handguns and she fell in love with my Ruger LCRX 38 Spl.
I told her she needs to get the new free 5 year permit started. I helped her as she filled the information out online. She requested my help Tomorrow selecting a new revolver and getting her finger printing done and information sent in.

Here is the biggest surprise of all. She said she is starting to see what I've been going on about all these years, and Trump wasn't as bad as she thought he was.
    I was shocked yet again.
She doesn't like all this lawlessness that the Democrat party is embracing. I really hope she is waking up enough to vote out the Democrats come November.

I thought I would share this with INGO. It kind of uplifted my spirits, and I hope it does yours as well. Maybe a lot more liberals are doing the same around the country. I sure hope so.

    Its a trap.
Liberals feel, they do not think.
Any having the lightbulb come on now are a joke.
Simply operating out of fear, not logic, and attempting self preservation.

The rules still dont apply to peasants like you and me.

The elite can say and do whatever.

Personally, I have no liberal friends. And any associates that have liberal leanings can reap what theyve sown

Hopefully she has a lot of friends doing the same thing. Reality can be a ***** when it becomes impossible to ignore.

Tomorrow I'm taking a new shooter out for a second time.
2 weeks ago, we went over safety. Shot 3 revolvers, and 3 semis. Went over the basics on each.

    I stayed away from politics.
I'd rather they come to their own conclusions, and I'd like to keep firearms separate from politics.
I know. That's difficult. But I don't want to alienate someone who is already shifting viewpoints. They'll come around.

And :yesway: to you for what you're doing.

This topic is hard for me. On one hand I really want to be helpful and help guide them into the light.

On the other I REALLY want to say "F*** YOU! You've been against us all these years. You have mocked me and my friends, fought against me, and voted for those who tried to make me lose the ability to own a gun. You dont get to fight against this right all this time and then suddenly change your tune when you think it suits you. NO! NO GUNS FOR YOU!"

:rockwoot:For every story we hear about, there are 100, maybe 1,000 more. We (those who owned guns before the hoarding of toilet paper) have to take a page from DadSmith's playbook.

    I understand what you're saying...BUT..
Do you want to revel in being right, and risk losing the "fight"?
Or do you want to turn an opponent into an ally?

Have had coworkers ask what gun to buy, or to teach them to shoot.

    They democrats.

I simply give them the name of an NRA instructor.
Nobody has actually taken his class.

See, it costs money. Guns do too.

IMHO folks want to feel like they are doing something, more than actually doing something.

I wont alienate a potential new shooter. Wont really help em either. Not past pointing them in a direction anyway.

I know way too many gun owners that know virtually nothing about importance of the fights going on to preserve the 2A and gain back losses. If I knew anyone who was previously an anti but was not wanting to own one I would sign them up for a 1 year NRA membership. I would check off the boxes to keep them from getting fundraising spamming but get them the magazines. I believe that if they start reading some of those articles that their mindset will open up to some of the nuances of the fight that they may not otherwise be exposed to or consider.

They were our enemy before and IMHO the majority will still be our enemy.

Buying a gun for their protection doesnt automatically put them on our side.

They proly just shmoozing to save costs. Once they buy a gun its back to being a socialist elitist democrap.....that just happens to now own a gun.

If you convince 1 out of 100, then you still have one less enemy.

Yep. We even have folks here that are OK with infringing of our rights. "as long as I can still keep a gun at the bedside and still hunt/target shoot, i dont care what restrictions are passed. Because I dont EDC, I dont own an assault rifle, and those laws wont hurt me."

I guess if one wants to try to help or educate....that it could be a good thing.

Long term, or just beyond the short term.....dont get your hopes up.

If they were liberal before they will stay liberal.
The only changes that might last would be with young people that simply never were around normal folks.

Those others, that have carried the democrat flag into battles before.......need to die on their hills.

It's clear you don't have liberal friends. If you did you might not paint with so broad of a brush.

I don't care how they got the light bulb to go on, feeling or logic, the important part is that it's on. From there you can work to educate, and lead them towards common ground and common sense.

I used to be much more liberal. It was through guns that I found myself reflecting on my beliefs and finding my way towards a more conservative and Constitutionalist viewpoint. If the first gun owner I met was all, "screw you. You're a dumbocrap" I never would be where I am today.

You can only change someone's perspective from the inside out. You do that by finding common ground and taking the time to educate them. How many on the left stereotype gun owners as dumb, uncompassionate hicks who care more about guns than people? Why go out of your way to prove them right?

So when a liberal geta scared they suddenly become trustworthy.

    Mkay

    No.
But they might see a new perspective.

Do you wish to be "right", or do you wish to convert people?
If you just tell them to F-Off, they will. And our numbers will decrease until we are swarmed under.

So do we write those people of as lost causes too? Do we call them our enemy? Or do we work to educate them and try to bring them around?
