A few crimes in one week and the mayor of Darby, PA, institutes a "State of Emergency" which apparently suspends the U.S. Constitution and allows the police to search anyone they see in public. Expect to see more "States of Emergency" declared as more towns and states suffer financially in the hard economic times ahead. Want safety? Arm yourself!

Week of shootings led to Darby state of emergency

Authorities were using powers which, under the 10-day state of emergency, allow officers to demand identification and stop and frisk people of any age who are outdoors or in a public place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., said Thomas.

I was totally upset. What if they had had the block party - and the person came back ... and wanted to shoot whoever it was he was looking for?"

Well, at least there is a cemetery nearby.;)

Come on Rambone, you know that if cops could do this all the time, there would never be any crime.

The legality of this Mayor's act is harder to swallow than the reheated pork chop I'm trying to eat. What law gives the mayor of a town this kind of power?

Darby is home to many immigrants and renters - hardly the kind of higher-income residents who could absorb yet another tax hike, for instance, she noted.[\QUOTE]

What is she trying to say here? Sounds like she already has it out of the people that live there because they aren't wealthy.

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.

It just sounds to me like she's saying she'd like to raise taxers to hire more LEOs but the people in the town aren't wealthy and can't afford to pay more taxes so that's not a viable option. I'm not seeing how you could get anything else out of that statement.

Apparently not all of the subscribers to the "never let a good catastrophe go to waste" are on the left.

fascism/communism, the further you go from center the more tyranny you get--either Left or Right. Thats why the two party pendulum system = fail. We need a party for the 80% of Americans that aren't socialists in either form.

I believe we have that in the Libertarian Party. Hasn't got us very far at all. I no longer believe the answer is a third party solution.

who is they? i was referring that i recall that the IN governor has this power right now.

    "They" as in the Government..

    House Bill 1065
The Emergency Powers portion of the law prevents state and local municipalities from outlawing the possession, purchase and ownership of firearms or ammunition during declared states of emergency. After years of hard work to further Emergency Powers legislation by State Senator and NRA Board Member Johnny Nugent (R-43) and State Representative Eric Koch (R-65), gun owners can rest knowing that in the event of a declared state of emergency, their Right to Keep and Bear Arms is protected.

So, as I was saying, no, not any more..
