Yeah, let's just have roving pseudo federal law enforcement looking, at random, for possible disruptive activities or suspicious people.

The sheep keep up the bleating while the politicians continue feeding the beast.

Well, part of it is justifying the existence of their VIPR program. Sort of like how Excise Police shoot fish in the barrel at Little 500 or Grand Prix.

They run back to the money spout and wave their numbers around. Don't kill us, look at what we are doing.

Long run though the feds and political class know what when the music stops and they are looking at Greece on roids they will need to protect where people will first go. SSA is a prime target of expressing displeasure when the treats start to dry up.

Yup. A LOT of people will want to take out their anger on their local SS office when their checks stop coming.

Thomas Milligan, district manager for the Social Security Administration office, said staff were not informed their offices were about to be stormed by armed FPS officers.

Perhaps the show of force wasn't merely for the benefit of the welfare folk on the outside. While the checks are still flowing, can't have the SS workers thinking they can just pack up and leave.

They are getting people use to seeing armed federal agents on the streets and at potential riot points when the economy crashes.
