The problem is that our "money" is not connected to reality.

That is what specie can do, and has done for millenia.

Of course, it's crazy to think of returning to a millenia-old concept when we have such a wonderful pure and completely decoupled fiat currency system that is all of 41 years old (well, about 80 for mere plebes like us).
