At least one person on INGO has a sig line that's full of trigger words designed to overtax government surveillance systems by forcing it to process and at least actively discard posts that in fact have no national security import whatsoever. This is a noble goal, but it rather short sighted.

It's short sighted in that it uses only a tiny fraction of all of the keywords the DHS now publishes as its list of trigger words. To wit:

These are presented exactly as listed in the accompanying article, spelling errors, questionable capitalization and all, which makes me believe that this list was compiled by a moron. Surely this is some poor derivative from the actual rules based word recognizer that the government would actually use, but then, I'm on the verge of committing the fallacy of the hyper-competent government.

Some are duplicated from one sublist to another. Most I've heard of. Many I have not and assume to be proper names of some organization or person that has simply not crossed my field of vision before. I assume "Cain and abel", being under Cyber Security, is a different incarnation of the hack I know of as "Robin Hood and Friar Tuck", wherein the programs were written identicly and when one was run, it would check for the existence of the other and if it's not running, would launch it. The gag being that if you ever tried to kill the processes, you had to be able to simultaneously kill both at the same time, else the multitasking nature of the OS would allow the killed program to send a signal to the other, which would promptly relaunch it, making it effectively impossible, prior to multi-core CPUs, to get rid of them short of a reboot.

Many other words are not listed, which should be there, such as:

    Congress
    President
    POTUS
    Supreme Court
    SCOTUS
    Agency
    Agent
    Special Agent
    Special Agent in Charge
    Bureau
    Bureaucrat
    Department
    Representative
    House of Representatives
    Senator
    Senate
    and other known terrorists institutions
    FEMA
    EPA
    Earth First
    ELF (Earth Liberation Front)
ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) (and all renamed and splinter organizations)
    Democrat
    DNC (Democratic National Committee)
    Republican
    RNC (Republican National Committee)
    Taxes
    Tax Protestor
    TEA (Taxed Enough Already)
    Tea Party
    Sovereignty
    Sovereign
    Sovereign Citizen
    U.N. (United Nations)
    Blue helmets
    Truly, the list is endless.

The Artificial Intelligence understanding child in me wants to write a program to figure out the fewest number of 140 character chunks (read: Tweets) that could accommodate the entire original list, whole lines at a time.

Cain and Abel is a program directed at sniffing and cracking information stored on Microsoft OS machines...

    You repeat yourself.
LOL Indeed, I do, good sir. Well spotted.

I stand corrected. That, however, begs the question why software like nmap and saint and other exploit packages weren't on the list.

Oh, and by the by, I think it goes without saying that anyone replying in this thread and quoting The. Entire. List., I'm going to come to your house and kick your arse. Unless you might like that kind of thing, in which case, I'll like point at you and laugh derisively whenever I see your posts. Unless you'd like that kind of thing too much as well, in which case, I shall do nothing, but disregard you.

OK, I get it, the feds are on the lookout for anyone using about 1/3 of the English language. Presumably it is still safe to discuss rainbows and unicorns?

    Rainbows, maybe, but unicorns, no.

    "Unicorn in every pot"

"Busse blades are made with unicorn tears"

You can see why these would be important for them to catch and log, yes?

I'd like to develope a "replacement alphabet" of sorts to associate other, completely innocuous words with those keywords. Maybe unicorn = nuclear, rainbow = biological, tennis = training, candy = ammunition, chocolate = high explosives, etc.

Keep that up and we will all have to learn French after there are no more safe words in English! :):
