UK Prime Minister David Cameron Announces That Filters Used to Block Porn Will Also Block Websites Espousing "Extremist" Views in Order "to Keep Our Country Safe"

House of Commons Hansard Debates for 23 Oct 2013 (pt 0001)

UK has about a decade or so before it reaches China/Iran/Syria/Russian territory. They're digging into their police-state views, and embracing censorship under the guise of "protection."

First, it's to protect the kids... then the people... then the government... then shut up peasant.

Last time I called the UK a police state, I was screamed at by British Keyboard Warriors. Now I have the option of sitting back and basking in this... or standing as people. Brits need to fight this by being loud, because that's all they have left to protect their freedoms.

UK slipping into tyranny again is hilarious, especially when their people are already disarmed.

Wonder how that meshes with members of INGO, if it's taking offline religious extremists websites.
That is do people prefer dangerous freedom or peaceful slavery.

Jludo - are you trying to draw some kind of analogy between the British gubbamint banning "extremist websites" and INGO putting the Kaibosh to Religious discussion - especially of the overheated variety? If that's not what you are comparing - my apologies. But there is NO analog between INGO - which is private property and the British government , which most certainly is NOT.I'm all for freedom of speech, and all for telling government to pound sand when they try to infringe on it. I just don't think that ANY of that applies to a private forum. People are and should be free to get a domain name and publish anything they dang well please. They should not be free to force that on someone ELSE's site. (e.g. INGO).

You asked for clarification and then went to town on the straw man you set up before getting the clarification ha
I see an irrational fear of muslims in a lot of the members of INGO and I was simply wondering if they'd be alright with government censorship if it were of muslim extremist websites.

No intent of a strawman - just didn't follow where you were headed... In answer to your question I think most around here can see that censorship doesn't accomplish anything. And if you or anyone else wants to set up a website and spout whatever swill that you want - go for it!

    Couldn't agree more.
