This is a really good look at the Kurds on the ground in Syria and Iraq and why the US is going to have to change the way they're looking at the Kurds there. Turkey is also going to have to make a course correction if they want to make any headway against the IS. Many, if not most, of the Kurdish groups are considered terrorist organisations by the US and Turkey, despite the fact that they're really the most moderate of the combatants in the region and stand to deal the most damage against IS in the long run.

We are so Blessed to have such a brilliant tactician and diplomat post on INGO...The rush you must get having all of the solutions to all of the Worlds problems must be the greatest high of all....

Your talent is wasted here and you should seek an appointment with the DOD or the UN.....I am sure a headhunter for the UN will eventually find your posts but you ought to at least send them an email with links to one of your "finally someone gets it posts" so you can get out there right now making the world a better and more wonderful place....

I think we should hire Hells Angels or other 1% biker gangs to handle security at rock concerts...They are pretty moderate these days (as far as gangs go) and would do a great job keeping the riff raff out of concerts and the trouble that ensues...

Let them start at the Gathering of the Juggalos...I like the way you think....

I think we should quit wasting our blood and treasure on that sh**thole and let them wipe each other out.

We will lose our blood and treasure if we left them duke it out, because one group will ultimately win, it will be the most brutal group that will be involved in making money by sex slavery, stolen oil, drugs, etc, they will be able to finance everything they want, exactly what ISIS is doing, and will grow strong enough to bring the fight to your front door. Fighting them over there is a lot better than fighting them here.

BBC News - Islamic State crisis: Peshmerga fighters head to Turkey

Iraqi Kurdish forces are travelling to Turkey, from where they plan to cross into Syria to battle Islamic State (IS) militants besieging the town of Kobane.
Officials said a plane carrying 150 Peshmerga had left Irbil. Their heavy weapons will be transported by land.

Pffft, four people died but four were born. So, it all evened out.

Fighting ISIL to the last drop of Kurdish blood? Now where have I heard this before?

If only all sides could lose here.

he curious part is what why is Tom Sellek spotting for him?

Because TC had the day off.

Turkey is more interested in wiping out the Kurds than in defeating ISIS.

I'm curious why you say this.

I mean, historically, Turkey has not been kind to the Kurds. And, parts of the Kurdish independence movement were labelled terror groups by Turkey.

But, Turkey appears to recognize that Daesh would be a worse neighbor than an independent Kurdistan. The Kurds provide a buffer between Turkey and Daesh. There's an element of strategic practicality in Turkey keeping the Kurds at war with Daesh.

Turkey's Plan For The Kurds 'Raises The Stakes' In Relations With The US | The Daily Caller
Islamic State: Why Turkey prefers Iraq's Kurds in fight against IS - BBC News
Behind the Lines: Turkey?s Syrian Kurdish problem - Middle East - Jerusalem Post
    From the last post:
Since then, official Turkish media have begun to discuss the creation of a 112 km. by 48 km. buffer zone west of the Kobani enclave, taking in the town of Jarabulus and its environs. Evidently, the Turks are keen to establish Jarabulus, west of the Euphrates, as a redline beyond which the Kurds dare not advance without risking Turkish retribution.

So, the Turkish gov't is functionally devising a buffer, without agreeing to allow a Kurdish buffer. :)

And, in the history of understatement, there is this:
Still, the events in northern Syria demonstrate just how strange regional diplomacy and strategy have become.

    It got worse.
Suruc massacre: Turkish student behind suicide bomb - BBC News

Meanwhile, two Turkish police officers have been found dead in the town of Ceylanpinar near the Syrian border.
    ...
The outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has claimed responsibility for the killings, saying it was in revenge for the massacre in Suruc and accusing the police officers of collaborating with IS.
At least one of the officers worked for an anti-terrorism task force, the AA news agency said.
Regional governor Izzetin Kucuk earlier said it was not yet clear "if there is a terrorist link".

Bad that a Kurdish group claimed responsibility for killing Turkish police officers. And bad that Turkish police might've been infiltrated by Daesh.

Islamic State: Turkey soldier killed in cross-border fire - BBC News

Well. Please place your tray tables and seatbacks in their upright position. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

Turkey's military and Islamic State fighters have exchanged fire over the Syrian-Turkish border, killing one soldier, officials say.
The governor of Kilis province said another two soldiers were injured when a border post was attacked from Syria.
Turkey responded with heavy weapons, killing one IS militant, the army said.
    ...
Many in Turkey feel the government in Ankara has not done enough to support the Kurds in their fight to combat the threat of IS militants across the border in Syria - something denied by the authorities.
    ...
On Thursday, one IS fighter alleged to have crossed from Syria into Turkey was shot dead by the youth wing of the PKK in Istanbul.

Turkey vows to continue campaign against Islamic State militants - BBC News

Turkish forces and IS fighters traded fire on Thursday near the Syrian border. One Turkish soldier was killed.
And early on Friday, Turkish police launched raids against IS and Kurdish militants, arresting 297 people.

Turkey's had a change of heart about allowing the US to use Incirlik air base for sorties against IS. Guess it takes getting dragged into things to make them change their mind. Their glorious leader thought his salafist leaning viewpoints were going to protect them and he was dead wrong. Hell, the Kurds are doing the fighting and dying protecting their lands AND Turkey. It's way past time for the Turks to pull their heads out of their asses and get in the game. Especially now that they have skin in it. The attacks are just starting.
