The Air Force is trying to by sexy new super fighters.

The grunts like the slow, ugly boxer that can dish it out,and take it.

The Air Force is trying to use the money from the one, to get the other.

F-22 and F-35 are crap. They know it and so does everyone else. They should be in prison for wasting that much taxpayer money.

The F-22 is a solid aircraft now that they've got many of the initial bugs worked out of it. It has been used with awesome success in the Middle East for a decent while now. The F-35 could have been good had they not let the program grow out of control and kept realistic about its uses and capabilities.

I love the A-10, there was a great book about the Warthog in the first Gulf war. At some point people labeled the A-10 the A. C. F. R- 10, It could attack-A, it carried cargo-C, it shot down helicopters-F, and the missle warheads had IR capabilities, for Recce work at night-R.......awesome bird!!!

Until they get a suitable tank buster and close support aircraft, the A-10 will persist. As it should seeing it has proved its value in warfare.

This article makes a good, no make that great, point. Everyone keeps arguing what plane is better, based on Air Force decisions by looking at facts and numbers.
But this article talks about an argument made about the psychological. And the importance of that when you're the man on the ground, and not a bean counter behind a desk.
I think it makes some good points.

And if you still need data to be swayed..

This article goes over some of why the f-35 is not a suitable replacement.

    Preaching to the choir.

But, in the "evolving battlefield" (of politics), I think the competition is less between the A-10 and the F-35 (which is truly like a competition between apples and grapefruit), but more like something between the A-10 and some package of drones (which is even more absurd).

On the outside, it seems like there's more of a feeling that for future asymmetric engagements, a package of drones would be better/cheaper than an A-10. That's the fight that people need to be able to take on politically.

The f-35 is a catch all aircraft designed by committee
It can't be all things to every service

The A-10 is pretty cheap, aircraft wise.
