I've now seen, on two separate occasions, news stories telling about President Trump sending notice to the IRS telling them NOT to collect penalties for not having health insurance.

I had my taxes done at the very last minute, but I was charged a penalty of $695 for not having qualifying insurance.

Should I expect an automatic refund for this, or am I going to need to file a complaint?
Who would I file it with?

I have yet to contact the company that did my taxes.
Guess I need to start there...

Anyone else get hit with this penalty this year?

I would be surprised if that was for the 2016 tax year. I could see them not collecting penalties for the 2017 year though. I could be wrong, I haven't read anything about this in the "news".

If it is for the 2016 tax year, you can't be the only person who paid the penalties and I would think there would be a plan in place for this.

I do my own taxes and from the research i did you just left the line blank asking if you had insurance. I did this, and for the first time in several years avoided the penalty. Got my return back in record time too.

This right here, your return can be filed if you choose not to answer
