And we would pay for this how? Oooo right, with the governments money...after they take it from those who work. Socialism sucks for everyone but the lazy.

If it replaced all current social programs I think I'd be down. I'd prefer the govt just gave poor people money than the inefficient patchwork of programs we have now. Milton Friedman proposed a negative income tax.
I also don't conflate using a product with an endorsement of its CEO's politics, that said I've not had Facebook for years now.

What Zuckerberg was pitching was no different than every utopian commune has pitched for centuries. They all failed, but that's beside the point. Great theory, wrong species.

Switzerland is toying with this now. The idea is to provide everyone with the equivalent of 250 American dollars a month. Not enough to make people live on the dole for life. The proposal would be payed for by scrapping their entire social welfare system. Other countries have brought it up and their plans involve the tax man picking you up and shaking you until "enough" money falls out.
Alaska offers a upi of sorts with it's permanent fund. It's paid for with oil revenue but the state government is constantly trying to dip their dirty fingers in the fund .

If the government just gives a person money for no reason, what is the incentive to work and be a contributing member of society? All it will do is create more "poor" people because its easier to sit on your butt and get paid than to work.

I personally think welfare should be nothing more than a very temporary safety net. Nobody should be able to live off it permanently.

It's a liberal aberration of what our country is (was) all about. Our ancestors didn't take the boat over here to get a handout, they came here for freedom and opportunity.

I'm all for a temporary safety net, but this womb to tomb stuff is disgusting.

    Bingo.

The snowflakes call it being compassionate. I call it the ruination of our nation.

Never had an account on the Facebook and never will. The experience holds no allure for me.

And knowing what we know about the owner, I prefer to avoid assisting him in making a profit while mining and peddling marketing data about me.

    Mine isn't because I don't have one.

Why doesn't Zuckerberg start handing out cash?

Because it would be his cash, of course. He wants the government's guns to enforce the redistribution of everyone else's cash as he sees fit. Standard statist practicing his morality with Other People's Money.

I don't use facebook, its a drain on society with people meddling over others. Zuckerberg's social media is also a drain on the economy and productivity in the work force. If he wants to help the economy he should delete facebook for everyone.

    I don't have Facebook, so mine isn't.

Eventually we may have to consider something like this as more and more jobs are displaced by technology, but we aren't there yet. Yes, I'm aware some folks think that the guy who's driving a truck today will be a cancer researcher tomorrow (like this guy: https://www.forbes.com/sites/timwor...conomics-of-jobs-and-automation/#6d87acfd1671) and maybe his point about having a social safety net to allow people to try new markets and fail without as much risk will lead somewhere...but I'm not convinced.

I think it's inevitable we'll have to experiment with this sort of thing, though. Probably not in my lifetime, or even my kid's lifetime, but we'll get to where this or something roughly the same will be implemented. There just won't be enough "real work" to go around.
