Non-binding with a 23% turnout. Does it really mean much?

People there probably expect us to bail them out of their financial crisis if they did become one.

No doubt they expect us to bail them out now, never mind as a "state". This is the territorial equivalent of the 20-something living in his parents' basement with no job, a crushing student loan debt for a degree in socialism, but expecting to be treated as an adult.

^Bingo. They want us to bail out their failed social experiment.

"Their failed social experiment?" How does concluded that the forcible annexation of an area, and the implementation of a colonial government emulating that of the home nation led to a failed social experiment, where the blame falls on the Puerto Ricans?

If they ever become a state, we can figure on two more Dem Senators in Washington. Great.

As mentioned above; cut them loose. Do they bring anything to the table for us?
