Community activist Desmond Jaddoo said the city was facing a gun and knife crime "epidemic".
He said: "It just tells you what this city is facing, in terms of gun and knife crime, and the terror on these streets when someone gets shot at outside a supermarket, even at that time of the night.
"We've had two shootings, and a stabbing in the past 24 hours, and others anecdotally.
"I'm afraid what this city is facing is an epidemic of gun and knife crime."

A gun and knife crime problem when only criminals have guns and knives. Color me shocked.

This seems to work about as well as Prohibition eliminating alcohol, the War on Drugs eliminating drug use, and the fact that crime is, by definition, illegal eradicating it from our society.

Seems pretty steep for me given the laws there.
Their definition of an "epidemic" is funny. Gun violence is still VERY rare in the UK. The very reason 2 in 24 hrs is news worthy. Some argue that their strict gun laws are the VERY REASON this latest "crime spree" is so shocking.

Let's try to refrain from looking down on the UK because we don't agree with their laws. We are not better than them and they are not better than us. We are apples and oranges. I mean, South Koreans are not allowed to own guns of any sort and crime is VERY rare. They are a democracy like ourselves. We don't turn our noses up at them for their gun laws. We are a unique country with a unique culture that does not compare well to other countries.

Do the Koreans look down on us for our gun laws? The Brits definitely do. Plus our own anti-gun people like to hold up Britain as a shining example of how wondrous gun control is. These facts tend to make people examine things a lot more closely there.

Beats me, no one ever asks them as far I know. They very well might.

Meh, they are equally as mistaken for trying to compare us for the same reasons I just explained. We are a particularly violent first world country and we will find a way to kill each other regardless of the laws.

    Some of them, not all.
You can bet that the British gun owners wish they had laws similar to the US ones.
Only the anti-gun British people look down on US laws.

As a foreigner myself I can tell you that many foreigners look down on "those crazy Americans with all their guns" because they are misinformed by the media.
Foreign media are just as bad as US ones when it comes to explaining US gun laws.
When people think that anyone can buy full auto machine guns at Walmart (no age limit or background check) then of course they think US gun laws are crazy.

It's the same with the anti-gun folks in the US.Most of them know their "facts" from the media and never spent time talking to a gun owner to ask questions about the laws.

After the massacre in Vegas there was an "expert" talking about guns in the US on French national TV.
I can tell you that over 50% of what that so-called expert said was untrue or highlyy simplified (apparently everybody has the right to own "assault weapons" in every single state, felons included).
