I've joked in the past that I would vote for anyone who ran against Joe Donnelly
Well, today, at the Lafayette gun show, I ran into a guy named Mark Hurt, who said he wants to do just that, run against Joe Donnelly.

I started to walk away when he said he was an NRA member and supported national reciprocity.
I stopped and said, "O.K. what else you got?"

He said he is pro-life, pro second amendment, wants to finish repealing Obama-care, wants a balanced budget, and will push for term limits!
I told him he now has my attention.
He asked me to sign a petition to get his name on the ballot, and I did.

I have yet to dig into his past, and I've not heard of him until now, but he looks promising on the surface.

Anyone here able to add any background?

I wish him the best, He is needed, but it will be an up hill battle. I never considered Donnelly that strong if it were not for the stupid comments by his opponent a few years ago. So it is possible that Donnelly simply became the only choice for a few folks.

I do think Donnelly is vulnerable with the political issues pending right now. Very little gray,

I got my letter from Donnelly's office a few weeks or months ago about a 2nd amendment issue. It was hard to say exacly what it said, other that they received my concerns and would consider them. What was not said spoke louder than that which was in print.

That's what drew my attention to this guy.
He said he was pro-2nd amendment, then again, we were at a gun show, so what else is he going to say.
He volunteered that he wanted term limits.
THAT is different. Likely won't happen, but it is sure not to happen if someone doesn't try.

I'm willing to back him against Donnelly, so far.
If this Mark Hurt turns out to be what he purports to be, then I'll vote for him too.
Donnelly needs to find a different line of work.

Outside of indy, Gary, Bloomington, etc, I think Donnelly is very vulnerable. We only need someone solid who won't scare off the people who make up the swing vote. On FB I've seen Donnelly track hard left on the tax bill and guns. He seems to be sand bagging his base.

After his no vote on taxes,I think he sealed his fate.

I have to agree on the term limit question of debate. Everyone thinks it is great, and it is, during the campaign. Then after being elected the focus becomes getting re-elected and who said anything about term limits?

But, it is always good to get someone on the record. At least I think so??

I do know that Donnelly is highly favored by liberal citizens, so that kind of explains it better that any letter he might try and wordsmith out.

Birds of a feather you know.

Personally, I'm against legislative term limits. The voters can impose whatever term limits we want.

Such as voting in a candidate that will push for a bill to establish term limits.

Ah, yes, I remember 1994. The problem is that people who get elected on a platform of term limits (at the federal level) don't have the ability to actually accomplish the act and tend to get used to not having them.

It is a useful token to hand out to a constituency because it won't ever be redeemed.

I met him when I had hair and his hair was black when he was at Howard County Prosecuting Attorney 18 or so years ago, Home Improvement Fraud in 34D03, when Judge Wood was on the bench (I miss him).

I think he is still there, part-time. Think I had a couple of HTVs with him 2016.

Remember the good old days when all a president had to do was set an example of self-limiting his terms and that example was followed for 150 or so years until a statist Democrat found it convenient to chuck it?

...of course, term limits were never in style for congress.

I think I remember something about that...wasn't that when the 'greatest generation' elected a commie to sit in the WH for like four terms? But he died before he could change his name to Stalin?
