Hahaha, in NYC almost no one has basements, that's how. Also, their parents would live in their parents' basements in they could.

Her opposition democrat was a big money ward style politician, closer to Tammany Hall than modern NY. He was an ally and considered a possible successor to Nancy Pelosi. Not much of a hipster.

It's difficult for me to under stand why young people would want to identify as socialists, over history it's not proven to be a very hip, stylish, or colorful. When I think of the word, I see images of gray, drab, uniformity. punctuated with boredom and not a little fear.

We're OK as long as we hold the Senate. As she continues to show her incompetence the Dems will let her fade away. They'd be fools not to. Personally, I prefer an incompetent socialist in govt than a competent one.

Thats because history is not taught in schools, and people ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it. I saw an article recently by some progressive socialist, stating that GULAG was a network of social rehabilitation resorts where the guests engaged in music and productive work opportunities to make them more integratable into the society. The ignorant lunacy is terrifying. GULAG archipelago by Solzhenitsyn, Road to Wigan Pier by Orwell, Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky, and Heart of a Dog by Bulgakov, must be in every school curriculum. That, and actual history of the XX century. If that happened, socialism would implode and go the way of the KKK.

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the hill". It works in some theories and they haven't been around humans enough to see how human nature precludes it. Functional communism/full socialism depends on all participants being equal in all ways and like minded. I have yet to participate in a school or work project that's worked that way much less working with larger numbers of people. Plus government is where good ideas go to die. They are also generally have-nots or from families of have-nots and think that socialism would turn them into haves.

    from the article:
"activist educators substituted ideology for scholarship"
"Raised in the United States after the fall of the Berlin Wall, these young Americans have been sheltered both empirically and academically from the myriad horrors wrought by socialism throughout history"

I suspect her endeavors at Boston University were less focused on academics and more honing her activist agenda. My suspicion is that she conveniently chose to pick and choose those minor parts of historical data relating to Socialism that fit her ideological preconceptions. Because of that, she can reference her secondary education as qualifying her to speak with authority. Not a direct quote from her, but I believe she has stated it is better to be ideologically right than to have to rely on the facts to press an argument. That’s why it’s impossible to have an intelligent dialogue with her. She chooses to only rely on certain facts that promote her cause, not all the facts that present all sides of the issue.

That's how it usually goes talking to anyone left of center and extremes on either side.
