...they just spend a lot of time thinking up ways to legalize people who are here illegally:

I feel like a lot of Libertarians, and even more so Anarcho Capitalists, think of things that would work in an ideal society but need to realize we don't live in anything close to that ideal society.

Open borders would technically work if there were no taxation, government funded programs, welfare, etc., but what is the likelihood we will see this happen? Until that happens illegal immigrants are able exploit taxpayers via the government, which would call for closed borders and strict rules on immigration.

Libertarians (as a whole / as a political party/entity) go off the rails like this in too many ways for them to be taken seriously as a political party/entity.

A lot of things seem like a good idea in theory...but then people get involved.

...and because people will always be involved, the "works well in theory" thing is next to useless.

'Course a number of libertarian ideas, I don't even think work well in theory. In other words, there's more similarity between socialist and libertarian thought than we might think, not so much in philosophy, but certainly in the "we've never had a chance to try it pure" way. No...and you never will.

Good point. Socialism would work beautifully if we had a society full of people who were altruistic to a fault. Happy hunting on that one!

As an independent voter, Libertarians have some good ideas just like Republicans and Democrats, but alas, this isn’t one. Country over party!

He certainly had a way of endearing people, huh.

He did. But he was steady to his beliefs like them or no.
He hurt some feelings and sometimes with intent.
But he had a voice and often made good points. Interesting covers it pretty well.

I had some PM discussions with him. Even met him once.
    I would welcome him back.

    Legalize pot, man!

He had his ways there's no doubt.

Some folks just seem to relish antagonizing others. He was an interesting poster. Like some, in real life, as opposed to their on-line persona, he may have well been quite likable.

I figured he was just like every other State Dept puke I couldn't stand.

Agreed. I will credit him with not crossing the line I have a problem with: He was somewhere between tenacious and downright obstinate with his beliefs and would readily dig in his heels; However, I do not recall him ever picking arguments for the sake of arguing. If he dug on it was because he felt it was a point worth defending.

I also appreciated the significant amount of useful information he brought to the table.
