As to your final edit, you are essentially asking the same question presented in the post to which you responded. Does it matter if you hire the white or the nonwhite candidate?
To prevent any confusion before we get too far ahead of ourselves, what do you mean by "equally qualified"?

    You'd think so.
Though I have been known to, in mid summer and putting in the 60 to 80 hours.

And to tell the truth, where I am now, does the sparky thing less.
And if it is, I'm either running away, or grabbing an extinguisher to stop fires from burning up stuff that I have to fix.

I spent my entire career in an aluminum foundry. Though there are a few similarities (like hot stuff that can burn you), there are marked differences. Early on in my career, I was being head hunted to work in an iron foundry as an electrical engineer. So I show up in my suit like one might do. The guy takes me on a tour of the plant and he’s showing me the cuppola (sp?) room when one of the ladles is making a pour. Of course the sparks start to fly. We were far enough back that getting burned wasn’t so much an issue but we were close enough that plenty of the sparks go flying by. I think the fact I didn’t squeal and dance like a little girl that just saw a snake did more than anything to lead to a job offer from that place.

    Probably.
We lose most of a group of 20 that get hired.
    First the drug tests.
Then not showing up on time for the safety indoc.
Then the safety indoc. scaring them into not coming back.
Then the first trip into the REAL mill, not a classroom.
Probably lose 3/4s in the first 2 weeks.

And most of our control rooms are called "pulpit".
But I'm sure that varies from facility to facility.
