I guess you didnt scroll to the bottom of that post. The reason is so they can see the old JApanese navy.

I guess that's better than the expression earned by Halsey.
Battle off Savo Island (Battle of Leyte Gulf)
WHERE IS RPT WHERE IS TASK FORCE THIRTY FOUR THE WORLD WONDERS

Now the message was actually, "Where is Task Force 34".
But when you code messages, some "padding" is added to confuse code specialists.
    The actual message sent was
TURKEY TROTS TO WATER GG FROM CINCPAC ACTION COM THIRD FLEET INFO COMINCH CTF SEVENTY-SEVEN X WHERE IS RPT WHERE IS TASK FORCE THIRTY FOUR RR THE WORLD WONDERS

The padding at the end, "the world wonders" just happened to fit what EVERYONE was thinking.
Adm. Halsey LEFT his station guarding the invasion, to chase a Japanese decoy.

    No charges were filed, because
there were multiple people in charge,
he had orders to guard the fleet AND do what he could to Japanese Naval Units,
    because he had "friends", and
he was a hero to the public. And with the war winding down, the Navy didn't want the public asking why they should give tax dollars to an organization that almost lost an amphib fleet, because it's "hero" went chasing after ghosts.

And while you could say he was following the second part of the orders, maybe he could have actually INFORMED someone that he left the door open and unguarded.
Maybe even left a couple carriers and battleships.

Yep, just leave TF34 as he had organized it off of San Bernardino Strait, and Admiral Lee crosses Kurita’s “T” coming out and annihilates him.

From my landlubber perspective, Halsey was a great admiral (especially during the Guadalcanal Campaign), but by the time of Leyte Gulf his judgment was failing. Battle Fatigue, I suppose; it’s pretty brutal to know that your men, who for the most part would do anything for you as their commander, were dying in every engagement.

I figure that once Halsey was informed that Ozawa’s force off of Cape Engano had four carriers in it, he became determined (obsessed?) to try to match his friend Ray Spruance by sinking four carriers as Spruance (and Fletcher) had done at Midway. So Halsey ignored Gerald Bogan and “Ching” Lee, hung out Taffy Three to dry, and then tried to shift the blame to Tom Kinkaid.

Maybe if Miles Browning was still Halsey’s Chief of Staff instead of Mick Carney, things would have been different (although it seems that Browning would have been inclined to go after Ozawa’s carriers, too).

    Well, go after the carriers.
    But let people know.
And delegate a force to guard.

    Admiral Halsey notified me
He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie
(The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie)

Well, this has been interesting...but I had to scroll to the top to remember what thread I was reading.

The US has said that they will not escort non-US flagged ships to protect them from Iran. They will provide command and control, warnings and intel however.

Pure brilliance. Past experience demonstrates that one one the reasons no one else would stand with us is that we would take care of the problem for them while 2/3 of them *****ed about how we did it.
