I am surprised ACT hasn’t talked about “TAFFY 3”

I think attacking 23 Japanese Ships 4 Battleships, 4 Heavy Cruisers, 2 Light Cruisers and 11 Destroyers seems reasonable.
( The Japanese started with two additional Heavy Cruisers till two US Submarines sunk them)

Doing it with 3 Destroyers, 4 Destroyer Escorts and 6 Escort Carriers seems kind strange?

The act confused the Japanese they thought the Americans were unbelievably brave and couldn’t understand why they kept attacking and assumed a much larger force must be near.

    1,583 KIA or MIA

    913 Wounded

This was the result of Adm. Halsey’s chasing a decoy fleet if he would have waited it would have been Armageddon of the sea.

I did talk about Taffy 3. Somewhere around here.
Or am I too obtuse to realize I'm being mocked?

I've had the idea for a multi-generational story, starting with Taffy 3, up through the attack on the USS Stark, and a bit past.

I don't know what the MEN of Taffy 3 were thinking, and I can in no way speak for them.
But in my mind, I hear "If you're gonna die, then die running at them. At the very least, make your death so expensive they'll remember."

    ACT,
I don’t remember you talking about it before but I am getting old!

I wish a modem movie would be made about it with CGI it could bring the insanity to life. I guess they were aware that if they didn’t try to stop them the Japanese would have destroyed the troop ships and assorted transports and the loss of life would have been much higher.

You have to have some big stones to attack a Battleship not to mention four of them including the largest one ever built.
It’s a miracle that they turned that fleet away.

They're making a new "Midway" movie.
A lot of CGI, but wwii planes and ships are hard to come by.

As for "big stones", the destroyers were the only ones that had a chance to get away.
Destroyer Escorts, and the jeep carriers were too slow to run away.
They couldn't even disperse. Because the Japanese could send multiple ships after every ship running.
So they did the only thing left, if you're going to die, die running at the enemy.
If you ever get the chance to read "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors", I highly recommend it.
Starts off a bit slow, setting up the battle conditions.
    But once it gets rolling...

Yeah wasn’t following that thread creeps me out to think about Submarine dudes dying.

I have read that the damage the big Japanese ships would have inflicted on the beachheads would have devastated the invasion forces.
One thing I found interesting was the US Sailors had not witnessed the dye that each Battleship used to ID which ships shells were hitting.
Evidently it was a Battleship thing only and non of the guys have witnessed it?
