    WATCH OUT!
Saw left wing Evan Bayh being interviewed last night, pushing the line that a moderate Democrat is what's needed as the nominee for President.

    Don't be fooled by him.
He WON'T be our friend on gun control in the current political environment.

Don't be surprised if he enters the Presidential race and uses his same old fraudulent common sense mid western values BS, hoping we won't find out he grew up on the east coast in the DC area, graduated high school there, and spent very little time in Indiana during his formative years.

I know this is true because I spoke to him in the fall of 1974 when we were both freshmen at IU Bloomington and he told me.

In fact when I said "wow, then you don't really consider Indiana home then?", Evan replied "no".
He told me they have a family farm in Indiana, and he spent some time here in the summers.

So to sum up, Evan just uses his name recognition in Indiana to run for office.

Regardless where he grew up, his policies (and I believe his personal ideology) is FAR more centrist than the current slate of Dem presidential candidates.

There is a wide gulf between left-leaning and leftist.

He told me they have a family farm in Indiana, and he spent some time here in the summers.

So he came "home" in the summer to watch the crops grow. Missed all the hard work of planting and harvest. The only manure he probably ever shoveled was in DC.

Regardless where he grew up, his STATED policies (and I believe his personal ideology) is FAR more centrist than the current slate of Dem presidential candidates.

There is a wide gulf between left-leaning and leftist.

I am pretty sure if he gets to sit in the Big Boy chair it will lean to the left.

His actual policies in Indiana and the Senate were - overall - pretty middling. He's a Democrat, so yeah he leans left.

But he is not - or at least historically has not been - anywhere near the socialist that seems to be the template for the current Dem candidates.

I keep hearing how today's Democratic Party isn't the same party as Kennedy's Democratic Party.

Heck, it's not Bill Clinton's Democratic Party....It's not even Obama's (though perhaps what he dreamed of).

We aren't exactly Reagan's Republican party, though, either.

    Times change; lines shift.

Seems almost as if it's closer to FDR's then any of those 3. Or maybe a blend of FDR's and LBJ's.

    That's probably true.

Left of LBJ, though. In some ways, maybe even left of FDR... well... at least what he was able to get passed in Congress.

As a once-upon-a-time young man state employee when Bayh was governor, based on how he ran state government, I fear what he could "accomplish" at the federal level.

As noted by many, above, I think the D's party's values have shifted, leaving centrists like Bayh way off in the dust. Although I suspect the majority of those who identify as Democrats values align more with Bayh, with the current level of polarization the party leadership would not give him the time of day.

It seems like there is no room in either tent for moderates.

Going to have to say I agree with him - I'm not fond of the current batch of socialist.

If he's running for president, then what does it matter where he grew up?
Is it any worse than a man that grew up on the East coast / NYC, and in Dem. circles and never lived in Indiana at all? :dunno:

Plus, how does name recognition in Indiana help anyone get to the White House? Has it ever?

Not that I like Bayh, this just seems like a rallying cry over nothing. Not sure that he'd fair well in the race. Doesn't Biden have the moderate vote?

I think it's the fact that when he was running for the Senate, he was always touting his "Indiana values", "hard-working midwestern values", etc.. I know, I know it's what the people wanted to hear. Doubt he'd have won if he said he was better qualified to represent Indiana because of his east coast upbringing.

Possibly, but only because he is the only non-fringe leftist running on the Democratic Party ticket.

We can argue all day whether Bayh is a leftist or moderate, but I think the are a lot of Democrats out there who would gladly jump on the bandwagon for someone who is a little more centrally located (politically) than all of the non-Biden candidates.

A politician saying what people want to hear so that they get elected?

All 20 or however many dem's are running will start to trash him the day he does not agree with them. Then the press will take their turn at him, then he'll be gone.
I don't think the canidates will tolerate a late comer trying to steal their "money".

Wasn't it Todd Young that handed Bayh his ass? I'm really happy to call him a loser.

I remember his "rise to the presidency" as governor. Never forget Bayh on the news crying that he couldn't get his proposed tax increases like "chester the molester" in the whitehouse did.

Exactly. Ive said before that id just love to have back the clinton era democrats. Sure we played dirty sometimes but there was a mutual respect still down in the trenches. I had good friends who worked in Democrat offices. Good friends.
    This party, i dont recognize.
Hell i dont even recognize the republican party that i was deep into. Both parties have shifted left.

But no, i wont be voting for ANY democrats. Even if i liked them (i dont like bayh) electing a democrat just gives the whole party more power. No way.
And yes, i have voted for democrats in the past. Ive always tried to vote for the person running and not the party.
Not now. No way will i support a socialist party in this Republic. We are at war.
