It is unreal that the media frenzy that manifests itself after every mass shooting creates $75 million dollars worth of publicity.

"Studies estimate that in the aftermath of their attacks, mass killers receive approximately $75 million in free media coverage, a level professional athletes and Hollywood actors would envy," Densley and Peterson wrote. "For men who feel angry, alienated and anonymous, the incentives to perform are appealing. And bigger body counts mean bigger headlines. One recently thwarted shooter posted that, 'A good 100 kills would be nice,' and another wanted to 'break a world record.'"

And an article suggesting some possible changes.

First, there is the fact that these deranged madmen perpetrating mass shootings must be taken down from the zenith of celebrity status at which the MSM has placed them and instead sink them into the nadir of the cesspool where they belong.
“But how can we do this without describing the perpetrators?” whine the MSM. These deranged malcontents and criminals should not be celebrated with the epithet of a “heavily armed gunman with ‘assault weapons’ and clad in full military gear…” These are jingoistic appellations the criminals apparently enjoy in seeking celebrity status even in death.
Instead, the media should use the appellation, “malcontented monsters, who maim and kill defenseless and hapless victims, including women and children.” And when appropriate to such despicable description, it should be added, “the deranged madman cowardly shot himself when confronted by an armed citizen” (which has happened on several occasions), or “… was shot to death in a well-deserved hail of bullets by the valiant police.” Those are the proper epithets that should be used in describing these sanguinary freaks who perpetrate rampage shooting incidents.
The police or armed citizens who stop these deranged madmen should be described as the true heroes they are. It is they who should be celebrated and not the criminal perpetrators. The constitutional or concealed carry options and the beneficial use of weapons by law-abiding citizens should be encouraged rather than demonized!

News outlets make money through subscriptions and advertisement sales.

They will promote whatever drives the most traffic through their doors. Wars, shootings, scandals, social justice, etc...

Actual news? Who reads that? Certainly not the latest crop of uneducated overgrown children we keep sending out into the world.

All news is now Entertainment News.

When we see consistent mention of previous news coverage of these monsters by the most recent monster, we need to look at what can be done to reduce the impact of glorification of the perpetrators. These angry mental cases often wear tribute items during their rampages because many of them actually study their heroes the media created.

It is so weird that these mass shootings happen with no real end or motives. The Vegas shooting was so swept under the rug and no real conclusions. Some people have been interviewed at multiple shootings and they said it was just unlucky they were there.

While true, that is not my intended direction of discussion with this post. Not in any way saying they should not cover it, but they have created Hollywood like mystique around these monsters to the point that others want to emulate them. That is what needs to stop.

The bubble headed bleach blonde comes on at 5, she will tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye, it is interesting when people die give us dirty laundry...

But she did not make it seem fun to crash planes...

Most of these shootings have a commonality, over 90% are from fatherless homes for one reason or another. It is often hard to comprehend that it literally is a lashing out at the community they live in stoked by other monsters in the virtual community they perceive as real...

Fair enough Ingomike. I know those commonalities but a lot of shootings seem to occur at such critical government voting times or when the government gets caught doing dumb stuff.

On a side note, what upsets me is the only news stories that go national with 1000 hours of screen talk are for school shooters that are white. There were those two transgender kids in Colorado that shot up a school and the media never released names or anything and failed to mention they were of a minority group (initially for a long time). They did interviews with students about it and they all confirmed it was a transgender but the media still denied it and started talking about taking away guns after the fact.

Exactly. Pretty much all of our current toxic discourse can be laid at the feet of the media and their transition to a model of attracting clicks and eyeballs at all costs. Nothing drives engagement like stories that give people a reason to fight and cut each other's throats.

If their coverage creates more mass shootings, well, that's just more business for them. Win/win.

We live in a society consumed with murder for fun games (that were designed for the purposes of promoting the behavior), aggression and sex for kicks (Hey, watched that evil garbage called NFL lately?) and a fear of discussing the facts. So here we are.

I'm gonna throw a little something out here.
All laws have their origins in spiritual values. Spiritual values are the governing, the driving, values that guide a civilization. The rails that show the train where to go. To alter the society you have to alter the spiritual values. That's one of the reasons by the way that wars are so useful for social engineering.
The use of electronic games, of organized sports, TV content, movies and of sexual pornography to re-engineer America has been quite successful. That was the goal rather than to make money. Making money is only the necessary part of the processes to sustain the operation.
It's a spiritual battle that was waged on the people. And yeah, I'm saying that in past tense.
So you can probably look down the road a bit and see where the country is heading. And you can read century old books too and see what they said they wanted to do.

I agree. The progressive movement in America is just another arm of the socialist/communist movement that swept through Europe and Asia.

They have been fighting with a plan and a goal for over 100 years, and they're beginning to make some very swift headway by using the boomer generation to indoctrinate the millennial generation.

Our last hope is the generation being raised by the Gen X - Gen Y crowd. We have seen some revival in that area.
