Never have seen it, so I don't know what the chinese find so irritating about it.

Lot of Chinese censorship going on right now, with American companies bending the knee and changing things to appease them. NBA big in the news right now.

South Park made an episode about Chinese censorship in the most "offensive to China" way they could.

    So that's why.

South park hasn't been banned there from the start? That's actually surprising.

As for hollywood or NBA trying to stay on the nice list... There are 300m ppl in the states to market to, there are 300m plus a billion in china. Even if half are essentially agrarian serfs and half the rest aren't interested, there are still more! Follow the money.

This is often quoted, but the fact remains that the Chinese government isn't stupid enough to allow an American company to roll in and hoover up the equivalent of billions of dollars in profits off of their [STRIKE]citizens[/STRIKE] slaves. China has all kinds of ways of both sucking the profit away while the Americans are there, and then once the Chinese equivalents have [STRIKE]learned[/STRIKE] stolen all they can they give the foreign corp the boot and take their assets to fund the new Chinese equivalent.

American companies seem to enjoy bending the knee in response to domestic pressure as well, as we have recently seen.

Some capitalists seem to hate liberty. They just love to make money...

I am genuinely surprised it wasn't banned long ago. SP is hilarious and the social commentary almost always on point. They skewer everyone.

Oh golly gosh the commies banned a cartoon.
How many cartoons have been banned here for social engineering?
Answer: A great big bunch of them that were normal when I was a kid.

About fifty years ago I read a short story about the commies beaming pornography in from space to American TV watchers in order to destroy the cultural fabric / social strength / underpinnings of the nation. It's sobering to see this turn of events play out in reality where nations have to protect their political structure from the programming being sent in. Seeing red China buy up controlling interests in production companies; not good. Hollywood movies or the half time shows at the stuperbowl where you get a satanic celebration set before your eyes. All social engineering targeted at making a different kind of people.

Yea but it's less catchy to say follow the trail of potential money they're chasing.

They are making a fair bit of money off China though. I agree it's nowhere near 4x as much though.

Well aware of the problem. Last thing I did back when I did live theatre was work a show (backstage, of course) chasing that logic. What they couldn't comprehend was that while they may be in a city of 25m ppl, that doesn't mean they want to see the show, pay what is being asked for the show, or have the mobility to get to the show. Suffice to say it only ran two stops, not even reaching China, before we went home.

Actually, something semi-related is that Pirates of the Caribbean 3 came out that summer and several of us saw it in the theater in Singapore. Singapore's a lot more accommodating than China about how they're portrayed.

It's funny when I was young southpark wasn't allowed in my house, yet its social commentary and satire makes it one of the smartest shows on tv. Matt and Trey are modern Mark Twains and I love it.
They might actually be better as Mark Twain wasn't willing to publish some of his best stuff until after he died.

I was already in my 40's when it came out. Used to watch it faithfully! I drifted away though and don't even know when it's on anymore.

Wednesday evenings it 'drops' on comedy central, but I dont know anyone who watches it on cable, it comes up for free on southparkstudio.com right after it airs on cable so you can watch it online.
Both episodes are up free online on southparks website https://southpark.cc.com/full-episo...e9-9fb2-70df2f866ace&position=1&sort=!airdate

I'm thinking it might be on Comedy Central. I know they show re-runs, so they probably still have the current shows too. I'll have to look at my cable schedule and maybe DVR it, since the new shows usually seem to come on after this old fogey has gone to bed. :):

The only time I recall them balking was the Mohammed episode. Wasn’t happy about that, this week was epic though and made up for it.

Agreed on the above. The social commentary and willingness to address anything is what makes it one of the best and smartest shows on TV. It’s crude and in your face but so is life. It’s amazing when the first episodes took weeks to make each and now they can do an entire show in under a week. It completely changed the ability of the show to follow current events. in the land of the PC Trey Parker and Matt Stone still let the fingers fly when need be

I’m really curious where this season leads and who’s involved

Episodes 200 and 201. So epic I wish I had the ability to record them back then. Episodes with so many sub plots and people involved and was truly epic. The only 2 episodes Comedy Central refuses to rerun. Man I need to rewatch them

Is it ironic that as 'offensive' as southpark is, it's equally adored by the right and left.
Obviously excluding the bible thumpers and woke pc warriors.
