Does a state office holder have anything to say about Indian reservations? I was thinking all that was federal.:dunno:

She [SD Governor Kristi Noem] cited an April memo from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs that said tribes must enter into an agreement with the state government before restricting travel on U.S. highways. The governor said that “neither consultation nor agreement among the tribal and state government occurred.”

IIRC, actual interstates (vs US Highways) running through tribal land are federal land that the tribes do not have authority over, which is significant for 2A rights if you want to travel.

What would happen if people ignore the checkpoints and just drive through/around them?

Isn't the checkpoint unlawful detainment (or whatever statutory language the lawyers use to describe such)?

Blocking roadways is the cool kid protester way to do things now days. They do it because it works when they get away with it.

Government and law enforcement are all scared to hurt the feelings of protesters blocking roadways by enforcing laws to keep them from being blocked.

    Could be anywhere
Way past time to declare them regular citizens and remove this whole separate nation status. It's not like any of them are living off the land...or raiding local environs for murder, kidnapping, slaves and loot (if they still were this would have been sorted out long ago).
