What's up with the dems and sign language?

Nearly every press conference you watch with the volume off you can tell that it's a dem talking if there is a (often bizarrely animated) sign language person in the video.

I'm sure there are republican outliers that do the same, but you don't really see a dem doing a presser without the sign language person.

Oh yeah! I would assume it's already closed captioned, and even YouTube has CC, so what's point of this? Virtue signaling? Of course, even our governor does it... Maybe closed captioning in real time is too delayed and error ridden? (ever try to read sports announcer's commentaries?)

In college I dated a gal that was taking courses to learn sign language. I had to break up with her because she and her friends would sit around and "talk" about me in sign. I could never prove it, but there were a few times I'd be watching TV or something and their hands would be flying around and then they would all look at me and laugh.

How much of the facial and gesture animations are part of signing? Some folks appear way more animated than others.
