Just had my buck scored by an official for the state record book. He scored 142-5/8 typical. Had just a couple of small deduction from 145-7/8.
I'm pretty happy with that and now have a goal to break in 2016.
I thought he was gonna go 150+....but I'm still excited about it and am looking forward to the next season!

My cuz popped one that'll make it, told him to get it scored so I can buy the book (that way he and I both in it).
IIRC they publish it every couple of years.
Told him to get ahold of Bob Graber.

Congrats on gettin' in the book :)

Exactly. Why there is even a net score is beyond me. If it grew it, count it. I have one buck with a 24" difference between gross and net scores.

    Great-looking buck!

I have no problem with the B&C scoring system.
Buckmaster used to do the "if it grew it count it"
Making exceptions belittles that which previously entered the book through more stringent rules.

    Don't like it?

Start your own system. Or don't enter it in B&C type scoring systems.

I missed all time B&C due to a couple of extra points. It is what it is.
    Big whoop.

Whenever I get one that will make it, it'll be that much sweeter.

I understand deductions. Think the system is fine. IMHO if differentiates like it should, but may seem silly when a rack is pretty normal and the deductions slight (and such that they knock it below threshold). Raw scores alone (no deductions) would allow gangly freaks to beat dang near perfect 10's.

So if looking only at overall score in a book...........what impression would that give?
You know what's what when a typical 8 or 9 or 10 o whatever makes it.

And I think the HRBP min of 140 to be fine :)
Yeah some folks shoot deer like that often, but across the state I think that score is fair, taking a deer over that is worthy of such recognition.

Take two identical 140" net 10-pointers. Add a 9" droptine to each mainbeam of one of the bucks, and suddenly it nets 122" and won't make the Indiana book. Which buck is more impressive, the clean 140", or the 158" that only nets 122? (I chose this example so that it would fail to make the non-typical category.)

    Define "impressive".
Rarity is cool, but I don't get all wound up over that stuff.
Think the scoring method is just and favors the ideal, as it should.

Those that don't like the system are not forced to get their deer scored.

Why not start your own book, maybe with a 100" minimum.
And p"ss off the guys who only shoot 99" deer.

I have no problem with the 140" net minimum, having taken quite a few bucks that exceed it. I just think it is hilarious that antler that is grown is exempted from the score. The ONLY reason B&C and P&Y don't update their systems is that it would shake up the rankings and those at the very top would complain.

I see nothing wrong with the deductions.
    Their system, their books.

People want in, but don't like the rules. That could be seen as funny, if it wasn't so telling of character.

Eh, I just want a 125" or larger by recurve. Outside of that I don't care.
Still PO'd that P&Y caved and allowed higher letoff. What next a crossbow allowance? Might as well get rid of the fair chase requirement as well.

But back on topic...........HRPB min typical of 140 is fair IMHO.
Those that take bucks that make it...............congrats (whether they get them officially scored/entered or not).

Some folks just don't care about books.

I gave up on P&Y a few years ago. In fact, my best P&Y class buck I didn't bother entering. I decided that the organization didn't deserve any more $35 fees from me.

    Agreed!
