Squirrel Season Starts tomorrow!

Who else likes to hunt tree rats? I will be out tomorrow with the .22 in hand hopefully have some fried squirrel for dinner

My 5 yr old is pumped, I bought him a Savage 949 youth 410. We practiced on Saturday and he shoots it quite well and has requested practice sessions every night. Got a Mountain Feist too, hopefully he'll start barking on tree. I'm looking forward to it more this year than ever before, mainly to ignite the fire my 5yr old has for it.

I've only squirrel hunted once many years ago. Saw 1 squirrel all day. My grandpa and I both missed it.

I'd like to go again, but wouldn't know what to do with it once I shoot it...provided actually shoot one.

Or just break the leg right above the ankle with the knife. I'll be completely honest, thats the first time I've ever seen someone cut them like that.

Fry, roll in buffalo sauce , put in pan with 1/4" of water and bake at 200 until water is gone. Buffalo sauce optional.

Bones and all, baking with water will make it fall off bone tender.

I thought suppressed hunting in Indiana was illegal. When I saw your post I researched it and can't believe that I missed that one. I will be fully suppressed starting this year too! Goodness, I almost feel dumb for not knowing they repealed the law and it's now allowed.

cook it and eat it . Smoked squirrel is great too. Put 4 or 5 of them on the smoker and smoke @225 for about 3-4 hours. Eat with BBQ sauce or pull meat and have it on a sandwich like pulled pork.

Fry- pan/skillet fry or deep fry? Completely cooked then bake?

I also would soak mine in brine overnight.

Hard to believe its season already.

I skillet fry it and bake after its completely cooked. The baking with water is only for making it tender.

Cook in as many as will fit in a slow cooker, then make Squirrel and Dumplings...
