The last deer I killed in Indiana was a nice 8 pointer by pickup truck in 2015. Killed another 8 point in 2014 with the shotgun. Also killed bucks in Wisconsin in 2015 and 2016.

But it's been a long dry spell in Indiana. Passed on 3 nice does Sunday morning with the muzzleloader, just hoping that nice buck might still show up.

It was cold Sunday morning, 15 degrees with a stiff wind, gradually warmed up, but had to get down around 9:30 central. Back at the stand around 12, but got really tired and laid down at bottom of tree and took a nap. Back in the tree ready to hunt at 1:40. Not 15 minutes later this nice 11-pointer shows up, dropped him in his tracks at 50 yds with a solid heart shot. All that waiting and work and passing on does finally paid off. Great hunt, great feeling. Even getting popped in the forehead with my scope couldn't ruin it for me. :)

    Impressive!

I thought I might have had a good "shot" of getting a 6-8 pointer this morning. Fortunately, he turned before he ran out onto the highway. :)

Congrats on the buck and also on being wise enough to get out of tree to take a nap.

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. It was a great hunt. I didn't mention that I watched him for a good 10 minutes before he gave me a perfect broadside shot. Pretty intense. The adrenaline hasn't quite wore off yet!

Mark, that looks like Hoosier record book material to me. Any deer over 140" makes it into the book. Bring you deer to the Deer and Turkey Expo. There will be certified scorers there to score your deer.

    Congratulations.

I love that feeling -it's one of the huge reasons I love to hunt. For those that don't hunt, I try to explain it's not necessarily the shot but the whole experience. Also kudos for knowing yourself well enough to climb down for a quick nap. Thanks for sharing, and nice 'un.

Been out for bow and gun and now muzzleloader. I have not had any luck. My problem is being 80% deaf and color blind. Stalking no way that will work I have a couple of tree stands set up in Orange CO bit no luck. I did get a doe last year probably was handicapped too
