I did a quick search and did not see this thread anywhere. What is the best herbicide to kill lilac bushes? I know that it has to contain Glyphosate and be put on freshly cut branches/roots as close to the roots as possible. Can any give a recommendation for a herbicide that they have successfully used? I have several I NEED gone and dead.

    Thank you.

The gardener's favorite flowers, she would not believe me if I told her people wanted the bushes dead.

Campingjosh is correct: cut them close to ground and apply Tordon, it will be permanent. Glyphosate is RoundUp and will not likely get the job done if applied to the cut stems.

You could use lawn weed killer concentrate straight out of the bottle on a fresh cut stem.
Lawn weed killer that contains dicamba, 2-4D & mecoprop as active ingredients.

I like my lilacs, but I do have a clump of bamboo that is slowly trying to take over my back yard. I wonder if that Tordon would work on it (after I cut it down)?

    Bamboo is a grass.
    Roundup will kill it quickly.

Lots of people look for bamboo.
You might try digging some up, potting them, and sell them.

I'll give that a try. I got a start of the bamboo from an old neighbor. It was cool for the first couple of years, but in hindsight I wish I'd never have planted it, or at the very least that I would have put some kind of steel ring or other barrier around it when I planted it. It's sent runners out and now I have bamboo shoots coming up all over the place - some as much as 20 or 30 feet away from the original clump.
