Went hog hunting in Tennessee a few years ago with a S&W Model 29 loaded with 240 gr Hornady XTP bullets over a stout load of 2400. Took a 100 pound piggy at about 65 yards with one shot. Piggy dropped in a few steps. The Blackhawk should have no problems with a deer. Best of luck!

I have yet to take deer with a handgun, but I will be taking out a 7TCU Contender out until I do. I have used the same model in 5.7x28 and a rimfire barrel or two to take some groundhogs. They are much easier to get in and out of the field, but take a lot more practice to shoot well.

I used a T/C Encore in 308, 14" barrel and scoped for years. Absolute hammer on deer, although not pleasant to shoot. Used it till I bought a 44 mag rifle.

    Pistol, for deer?
I have a Savage Striker "pistol".
I put "pistol" in quotes, because it does wear a pistol grip, but that is the only similarity.
It is chambered for .308Winchester, is a left-handed bolt action, and has a 16" barrel.
Each time I take it out for deer, I see nothing...

I have taken coyote at about 60 yards with a 4" barreled .357mag Taurus

I never knew this was a thing.

I always got my handguns from dealers.
So what do you do to catch them? Use ammo as bait in traps or something? :dunno:
i play the sounds of liberals to scare them into my protective arms

I shot a ton of rabbits when I lived in Alaska with a 22lr H&R revolver. Some squirrels with the same pistol and just put a green dot on a S&W22a for this year. I will try to upload pics of the rabbits the look pretty good when they are changing from white to brown in the spring.

My biggest buck was killed with a striker in 243. I had a head injury with fractured eye socket. Couldn't shoot long gun due to recoil re-breaking my eye socket. F.i.l. hooked me up with the "pistol".

In days gone by if a revolver was what I had at that moment then that's what I used.
Brought home lots of rabbits with a Security Six, 148 grain hollow base wadcutters and very small amounts of Bullseye.

8" scoped Dan Wesson .357 Mag revolver. T/C Contender in .44 Mag, 30/30 and.35 Remington. I only use these in the thick woods with closer shots, or with a rifle for deer, as it's easier to lean out with a piston if a deer is under the stand than with with a rifle.

I've taken deer with a TC in 270 Max, one of my favorite calibers. Also with bolt action pistols in 6br, 6.5 br, 7br. I shot a doe with a Sako bolt pistol in 250 Savage Improved, but that was one of the very few I never recovered. Since rifle calibers was opened up, I rarely hunt with handgun now. The Ruger American rifle in 300 blackout takes care of a lot of the handgun distance deer.

In the lat 90s I took several deer with a Ruger Super Redhawk. Had one in 7 1/2 and then one in 9 1/2. Sold both of those years back but bought one this spring in a 6 1/2 inch barrel. It seems to have better balance than the other two did. Looking forward to testing it out soon.

Grew up handgunning woodchucks w Ruger SA .22 mag and .357 mag.
College days squirrel hunted w AMT Lightning 10.5" and a Kart Slided 1911 (pops' rig).
First handgun deer was a doe w OM SBH and 255gr hard cast lead.
Blasted a few more w 629's and one out a ways with a SRH (no scope).
Eyes suckin, had to look 3 times at my sights before I touched off on this one (facing away). Spined on purpose, bullet stuck in end of nose (guy did Euro mount found it).
    51 or 52 yards, can't remember.

Went yote hunting w my bud. He had an AR, I took the Colt. Told him inside of 75 I'd be OK.
He thought I was FOS. No shots that day. Next time we went, diff spot.........I shot this one coming to caller, 25 yards on the run.
Jumped in the air, somersaulted, landed on feet and kept running, for 20 yards or so, then spun and was stone dead.
