A long time friend of mine moved to Montana yesterday and had to abandon a off road trailer project he just had built so I bought it with the hopes to finish and use the hell out of it. It’s so freaking sturdy!!

Right now the plan is to have an attached ramp built for the rear and fold down attached sides for both keeping stuff in and folding down to use as tables once I’m where I am going. Also trying to design either a fixed or removable elevated storage platform (like a basket rack on top a camper shell or car/truck top). The features I really like are the Reese receiver in the rear so my 4 bike carrier can be added, Reese receiver in the front for the lock and roll hitch, and the beefy 31” BFG Radial T/A’s & Spare.

Stay tuned for updates. Hope to have the add on features done soon.

I’ll mainly be hauling 3 dirt bikes on the bottom and hunting/camping stuff up top.

bottom will also be used as my trailer for my 36” ZTR mower when needed.

I’ve thought the basket will be for firewood if it will handle it.

Hinge a rear deck on it instead of a ramp. Use a manual hydraulic ram to raise and lower it as a combo ramp and deck. Use a pin to lock the deck in the up position for travelling.

Will the 36" mower fit in between the wheel wells?

And will the frame / axle hold up if you fill it full of fire wood? It really doesn't look like it's all that big of a trailer - and wood is heavy.

I do like the ideas you have, I'm just not sure this particular trailer will accommodate all of them.

From my interpretation of the photos it looks like the axle is a U channel. If that is the case I would flip it upside down or it will collect salt, mud, and moisture and rust out. 4 bicycles are a long lever arm on that rear hitch I would tie it in further forward to keep from twisting that stringer. What is your tow vehicle, that is going to put a lot of tongue weight on whatever it is attached to.

Inside the wells is 65" and my 36" Exmark fits through a 48" gate with no problem, so no issues there.

Under that front box is the absolute strongest part of the trailer. It has tree different triangulated 3"x2" steel square tubing under it so I don't think there are any issues with firewood in the box. Except that I am not sure it wont bust the welds on the steel mesh lining the box. Easy fix if it does, but would be a PITA if it did it often.

Axle is a tube/sealed from hub to hub. It will be pulled with a 2015 Tundra 4x4 (10k capacity) when it is heavy and a 2010 Rubicon when it isn't loaded to heavy.

Here is the support under the box. I am thinking it needs one more piece of angle on each side underneath.

Is it just me or does the 'tongue' look like a 2x2" receiver? That's interesting if it is. I haven't seen any interchangeable tongue systems. Hmm...

Yep, it uses a “Lock and Roll” hitch system. I wasn’t sure about it at first but I actually really like it. Makes the trailer be able to roll over rocks or uneven ground at a different angle than the pulling vehicle.

A concern if taking this really off-road would be the approach/departure angles. Most off-road trailers I've investigated have the axle under the leaf springs to gain more clearance, and better angles. Or they have longer leaf springs with more arch.

Not a concern if you're just going to a trail-head to unload the bikes and go hill hopping.
