Found this today. Last Saturday, it was just a blob on a tree. Kinda fluorescent yellow and white. Today when we walked by it was like this. I think it is chicken of the woods but not sure. Any thoughts?

    Earlier than usual for sure.

Cut in strips 1/2"-3/4" batter and fry. Dip in ranch, bbq, or hot sauce. Tastes like chicken. My kids thought I was telling a lie when I said it wasn't chicken.

I didn't know those were edible, I know of the hen of the woods, aka maitake, aka sheepshead, we used to harvest them where we used to live. Found a 22lb one two years ago. I just learned about pheasant back last year, they're good too.

I have found them to be a bit toxic if you eat too many. I can eat morels till I am stuffed but if I eat too many of any of the fall mushrooms it can make me sick. I still eat them just not too much at a time. Jim.

    Good eating
I found my first while bowhunting many years ago. I will note they need to be soaked in water soon after they are picked as they seem to go bad quickly after being picked. They make quite a meal. They.can be found fall or spring.

Then came across this dead Oak at the park today. I harvested some of the larger one and left the others to spore and grow a bit larger. I’m new to this so I’m curious how much bigger the small ones will be in a few days. (If someone else doesn’t fine them first…) :)
