I've been after this dude for a week. My wife forgot to close up the coop one night and he went in, drug my rooster out (or the rooster chased him out) and tore my rooster up. He's alive and healing up but he hasn't wanted to go back in the coop at night since. I've missed two opportunities at him due to stupid mistakes but I was committed to getting him tonight. I laid out in the driveway and waited for him to come up from the bridge across the road. Was waiting for him to walk in front of a big maple and he stopped just short of it facing me. 75yds, bang - flop. Success!! First varmint I've taken a shot at since moving out here almost two years ago.

Get a coon cuff, Phylo. Fill it with 1/4 cup of cat food and stake it down well or chain it to a tree. He'll be there in the morning.

If there is one there are several more.

Thanks for the tip, I'd never seen or heard of those before. I'll definitely be ordering a few.

Got one almost every night for the past week. Possibly two entire raccoon families. Not with anything fancy - just a pellet gun and a flashlight. From the tracks in the mud last night there is likely another. With all a dead ones on the road, how can there be that many left?

You can't kill them fast enough.. a buddy from Purdue did his thesis on coons. He did a 100% removal from an isolated wood lot and measured how fast it repopulated. In no time flat it's population was back to original numbers.

JFYI Rural King carries them if you're impatient and there's one nearby.

Thanks but I’m done with RK. The last two times I’ve made the 40 minute drive it’s been a disaster. Sucks because I’ve found several things I needed which were priced near double at Tractor Supply. I’ll order a few off Amazon.

That is a huge coon, and an unusual color variation. I have eliminated 3 from my backyard in the past 3 weeks. Also have eliminated several Piney squirrels recently.

Great job. I lost 13 chicks & 2 adult hens to those darn trash pandas. Last yea rI took care of the three that kept getting in my attic. This year they kept getting my bait in the trap and not getting caught.

Me too. I screwed a MOE rail section to the air rifle forearm for a bipod. Bipod comes off quick and X300 slides right on.

Don't normally have anything against coons, but can't have them threating my food sources.

City friend sent me a vid of the cute baby coons in his yard. I didn't tell him about the demise of the couple in my yard the night before.

    Damn, that's a big boy
    Nice kill !
I'd feed a couple pieces to the rooster at least lol.
Oh and no e rifle setup
    And +1 for the redi-mag.
I'm old school too and have owned them myself since using them in the military. Most people wont know what they are but I love them

I’ve actually modified an AR mag and have secured a battery pack for the thermal in it, that battazine rides shotgun in the Redi-Mag. Works out great.
