Is there any law against shooting it down if it crosses over your property? What would be the best caliber? rifle or shotgun?

On another note I am puzzled how it can travel so far without getting drenched out of the sky in rainstorms. It must have gone through numerous storms between there and here.

Not at this altitude. The "cloud" was up around 5000 feet while crossing the Atlantic. It is dropping to near ground level only as it as approached the continent. It is likely to "rain out" as the dust allows water to condense more easily.

www.airnow.gov is an incredible air quality resource. Near real-time data; especially with particulate matter. (There's about a 2-hour delay)

Indiana's own instruments are shown on this site.

    Paired with: hint.fm/wind

...and a little reckoning, one could pretty well estimate if/when any impact would reach a given ZIP.
