Trip isn't going great so far, I planned to get further down the road, but a flat on the trailer about an hour east of Kansas city detoured me a bit.

Oh well, it happens, and in the long run will add to the overall experience

When you get time, we need to know about your setup and gear please. :ingo:

Is this a hi-power rifle hunt or are you using your new muzzleloader? I'm curious how the Arrowhead Precision bullets perform on game. Might be looking info a new MGM Encore barrel to use their bullets with...

    Gear will be

28 nosler I built a few years ago with vortex Razor LHT 3-15X50
    Mystery ranch bob marshal pack
    Ozonics
    Vortex Razor UHD 18X56
    Vortex Fury 10x42

Tomorrow I will take my bow because rifle season doesn't start until Wensday. I plan to carry a bow as a what if, but mainly make Tomorrow a scouting mission. This is my first out west solo hunt, so I'm pretty excited about it.

It is not. I missed muzzleloader season out here by a couple months.

I'll get home the 8th, then leave for Nebraska on the 10th. That hunt is where I hope the Arrowhead draws first blood.

This is my first time adding a picture from my phone, so bear with me.

Today was the last day of archery. Tomorrow is first day of rifle. Today did not disappoint in the least. I dont know how many deer I saw, but it was quite a few. I saw 4 decent bucks, with 1 of those bucks breaking my threshold for "stud". This is the biggest I got a picture of. He bedded about 100 yards from me today. I hope he makes the same mistake Tomorrow.

The biggest one I saw is head and shoulders bigger than this one, but I will be happy with either.

Possibly the worst weather I've ever hunted. 40+ mph wind gusts, 20 degrees, and spitting ice. Not much movement yet, but anything with 1/2 a brain is finding shelter. Can't kill them from the hotel.

as a former resident, I can tell you that's just '"calm to light breeze".
I got a lifetime license before getting transplanted here and go back every year to chase ditch pigeons and, when I can swing it, stay extra to spot-n-stalk mulies with my bow - one of the most extreme adrenaline highs I've experienced!
Good luck to you, and don't worry, the weather will change!

Weather was nice today. Low 20's and little to no wind.

Found a couple more nice bucks. One double drop tine, but he had EVERYTHING broke off the top. On top his longest tine was 3 inchs. I still about took him. Its the 2nd time in my life I've seen a non typical.

    Dang.... some good looking deer!

I have never been mule deer hunting..... it's on the list.

I assume it is very similar to whitetail hunting.... any big differences?

If I remember correctly Kansas is a draw tag for non-residents, correct?

Are you hunting public land, paying trespass fees, or hunting with an outfitter?

I'm actually hunting MY land. I bought a piece of ground out here over the summer so I can do land owner OTC tags, and spot and stalk hunt 15 hours from the house.

Yes, kansas is a hope and prayer draw for mulies. If you draw whitetail, you can pay to get in another draw to upgrade it. I'm told its a 1 out of 10 years tag.

I got it done today. I saw that double drop buck again, and he just looked cool, and gave me a cool stalk, so I went for it. He's not going to score well, but I really don't care, he is a cool buck.

    Pics are uploading slowly
