    This is a wierd one.
When I cock the 1911 and put the safety on, then defeat the grip safety and pull the trigger, the hammer falls and the safety drops out of safe.
    Any ideas?

    The thumb safety...???

Does it have any resistance when you put it into safe...???

Can you move it out of safe with no resistance...???

    What brand 1911...???

Sounds like it is not locking into place.

Regardless this needs to be addressed.

Nice solid detents on the thumb safety.
It is a para ordinance double stack .45
The safety is an ambi and feels like it is being pushed down somehow, I can feel it

Have you had it apart recently.....I mean really apart...???

This sounds deep and you need to get it to a good 1911 smith.

    Never detail stripped this one.
Just had the slide off to install a drop in threaded para barrel for my new suppressor.
Fired a few mags and a few issues started to crop up that I never had before with it.

If you remove the safety you will see a half round peice, it should have a fairly share sharp edge . When building a kit this peice has to be fitted to the gun. It sounds like the sharp edges have become rounded off a little

Ok, not aluminum, but the edge that engages the hammer looks pretty hacked up, not worn down. looks like the safety was not in fully and the hammer falling hacked the edge off.

    Alright, Thanks Church & Nitro!
Will order a new safety tomorrow. have heard that Ambi safeties are problematic anyways.

The Ambi is not really an issue. All of the important stuff is on the left side as mentioned up stream.
The issue with the Para is in metallurgy. Get a solid part like EGW or Wilson bullet proof.
when you fit it up and are removing material be careful. Just a bit at a time. These are not drop in parts. The require fit up.

I personally have a Ed Brown Tactical Extended safety on my Colt. Seems to be perfect for me. Not too bad on price either.

If you have any plans on getting into 1911s regularly, this armorer's block is a really handy tool to have: Armorer Block - 10-8 Performance Store

One of the things it has is a jig for fitting a safety while maintaining the correct angle on the surface that you need to fit. I've fit safeties without one of these, but having this makes it a much easier job.

I have quite a few 1911 style pistols, and am pretty handy, but having ruined a pistol years ago, I am not really confortable with tackling any cutting on the frame or slide....but sundries are fine.
