Was doing work for my grandmother today when she pointed out a bunch of old barrels and stocks hanging in the garage from when grandpa passed. He liked doing wood work and was probably planning to redo a lot of these stocks and such, does anyone know anything about these markings or any info at all from the shape of the stocks/barrels? Obviously its all pretty much wrecked from sitting in a garage for +25 years im just looking for info out of curiosity.
if they are of interest to anyone grandmother would probably be willing to part with them. Heres some pictures

Also found an old craftman lathe from the sears and roebuck days. If anyone knows about these suckers id like to learn about it to. It looks new with exception of a lot of years of dust. Next week i might be in the attic perhaps more treasures will appear. Thanks all

Cool old stuff. Can't help you on identifying the gunstuff. If you want to start learning to turn wood that's what you've got with the craftsman. your grandpa may have only turned spindle for table legs and stuff. Look for his turning chisels. I would doubt that there is a chuck to go with the lathe but keep an eye open for one.

The bit on the end is the chuck on that wood lathe. If the steady rest and the tail stock are there then he has a pretty complete lathe. There may be other bits for the spindle. I am not that up on wood lathe's.

It should be easy for the op to find a manual for that. And you can bet that there cutters there somewhere near it. You have a neat find and something to cherish from your grandpa. It should clean up nice. Look it over well, power cord and belt and such. I am sure he'd be happy to know it is put to use.

Perhaps ill get into some wood working. I could get into that. Grandpappy had good tastes. This wasnt a new discovery today but its in his garage. I keep up on it a few times a year. Otherwise im not allowed to touch.
