I have a RIA wide body 1911 that has ran fine for the last few years.
I had put a comped colt 1991 slide on it a while back that also runs fine.
Having recently received a .45 suppressor, I decided to add a threaded barrel to this pistol.
Bought a Wilson barrel, (the RIA is non ramped) and dropped it in the original slide as well as put the original spring and stubby guide rod back in.
Slide racks, but seems a little gritty when fully rearward. barrel goes into battery and the slide and barrel are tight, safeties and hammer function properly. Have not fired it though.
But... the slide won't come back off. Pull the spring and remove the slide release and the slide will not come any farther forward than the "in battery" position. Played with it a while before work today, but to no avail.
If I pull the slide back and try to slam it forward it goes no farther than "battery position" and something metal is hitting in there somewhere.
Pop the slide release and spring back in and function seems normal.

Any ideas what could be going on in there?

    Thanks.

barrel seemed to fit in the slide pretty well and locks up like a vault.
Not sure how free the link is swinging. have to look at it again tonight.

Sometimes if you pull the spring out the spring guide will fall and it will lock the slide even on a properly fit gun.

Turns out the ID of the dust cover is a little smaller on this RIA 1911 than on a colt. The spring guide I used was a Colt one and was a little bit larger OD. It couldn't slide down the dust cover channel without getting jammed up. Swapped it out and good to go. I did also notice the link on the new barrel wouldn't swing freely, so I worked it a while until it would.
