    ... tinkering with my S&W 617 (I love that gun). I purchased an Apex increased mass hammer kit including two rebound slide springs. I installed the hammer a few days ago and have had no issues, but I couldn't tell an improvement either. Should've just left it alone... but no. Not me. I get my Wheeler trigger pull gauge out and install the lightest spring (.160 light weight). I didn't like it for being too light; it was noticeably slow to return the trigger. But, I'm trying to measure the pull weight when I notice the hammer has shifted (no side plate) and has created a nasty gouge in the frame just under the right side of the rear sight. What a ding dong. :facepalm:

    you had the side plate off and were attempting to dry fire?
    You deserve it, You realize that you were putting a strain on the hammer stud also ? the 22 cal pistol has a heaver hammer spring than the centerfire guns
