    Click bait,
Not really a hack I guess, it just took me a long time to think of it.

Removing a barrel from a Winchester 94 to cut and thread. Normally I bolt my barrel vise on my frame rack and us a 3/4" drive ratchet to tighten the barrel in the blocks. but my rack is kind of in use and I thought I would try doing it in my press instead.

What a sweet deal. With the long ratchet it is still at times hard to tighten the vise enough to hold the barrel especially a small taper barrel still but not no more.

    My normal holding bench

    Normally bolt vise here

But instead I just inserted the whole vise in my press and used some rosin. ran it up to 5000 lbs and barrel was solid as a rock. It made loosening the receiver a whole lot less hassle and took a fraction of the time. :)

Now to cut to 16" and thread.

I went ahead and moved forward with doing more since I had extra time :)

Rough cut barrel to 16 3/8 finished length will be between 16 and 16.250
    Set up in lathe

    Indexing to the bore

This is a prime example of why you index to the bore and not just chuck a barrel up in a lathe and thread.
Notice the bore is running true but the outside is way off center

    Now to my day job

That video is really amazing. I mean, it clearly shows how the long axis of the bore isn't concentric with the outside of the barrel. Never would've guessed it could be that far off.

Great pictures and the video was excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing the rifle once it is done. Andy

Thanks. It will be up to owner to post pocs. All I have is a barreled receiver

the only thing I can say is you need to take the rifles completely apart except for the receiver like BillyBoy did on this one.
I can do it all but with my work schedule cost and turn around time increases drastically if I have to completely strip and reassemble the gun

    Finished cutting threads
