I didn't realize they had started using plastic in their trigger guards, but I doubt you'll have an issue.
Today's plastics are tough as nails, though I too prefer steel.
Mossberg has been producing 500's since the beginning of time.
If it breaks, give them a call.
I would be surprised if they didn't send you one free of charge.
Really? I just detail stripped a 590 yesterday. It felt solid to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have the metal trigger assembly they offer, but I feel like the polymer one feels durable. We'll see what if feels like shooting it. You could always upgrade the trigger assembly to the metal one. You can find them on Brownells site, but they're salty (~$170).
Anything can break. I've seen an old Benelli Super Black Eagle with an aluminum trigger housing and the trigger guard broke[SUP][/SUP] a half inch section clean out
Just don't use the thing as a bat and swing by the barrel you'll probably never have an issue. But sh@t can happen
Buddy had one, we were dove hunting. He couldn't hit crap and shucked the pump so hard the trigger guard broke.
I didn't see it happen. But birds came by and he didn't shoot.
Peeking down his way I see his shotgun stuck in the ground, like a post.
He bought a Browning Auto 5 20 ga the next morning at Lengels.
