Does anyone have access to a tig welder? I have three 6/32 holes that need to be welded so I can mount a new scope base on a 1903 a3. I can mig and stick, but not tig.
Why not use a blind screw, install screw file it flush then move on. Easier to clean up too. Use some type of permanent glue or jb weld to make permanent.
Although I don't know OP's full issue, a blind screw won't work if the new mounting holes come close or actually intersect with the original holes. I suspect that may be the case since he is mounting a new scope base.

I'm not a gunsmith but I have been a welder since October 1982. IMO INGarand has the best fix. Heat not a great idea on hardened steel. If it were me I would locktight a screw in it and let it dry. Then I would cut it off 1/16 ish long and peen it enough to hide the the thread at the surface. File to fit.
