Anyone ever had a revolver barrel shortened? i cant find much info on the subject. Seems like when I ask I get the same response “ just buy one the way you want” well they don’t make them

any idea who or how much to shorten and a new front sight?

I don't think it's done much any more as you can get short revolvers pretty easy. I could see people using shortening as a solution to a barrel problem like a bulge.

It's not terribly difficult to do. The front sight will need to be drilled and tapped back on. Make sure you mark the location of the sight BEFORE cutting. Sounds silly, but don't get ahead of yourself.

I’ve got an old Smith .38 that I’m planning on cutting down for a project I’ve had in mind for awhile. My lathe is pushing 100 years old, but I think it’s up to the task.

There is a great number of good smiths doing fine work to single action Rugers, they can build you pretty ,ugh anything you can dream and afford!

Two old cut downs of mine from the turn of the last century. The top was a Colt New Service .455 Eley cut down and bored for 45 Colt. The bottom is my "Smython", an old Hand Ejector in 32-20 that was cut down and customized.

Please tell me that .32/20 wasn’t an original target model...

It was, but I didn't do the cutting.:(

Must have been done many years ago and I like to think it was to repair damage. This gun has some sort of high profile factory target rear sight as well.
