Reboring In Indiana

Anyone know? Are there any smiths doing reboring in Indiana?

That's a pretty specific trade, I've never heard of anybody doing it locally.

Most of the "Craftsman" are gone....

The last person around Indy that I know of, that re bored/sleeve barrels was George Perkins, up in Fishers/Noblesville area.
He was a MASTER Gunsmith that has been gone for 5-7?? years...Bill.

The one smith I've worked with lately was in Washington.
Sent a letter of inquiry off to Jesse Ocumpaugh in Oregon.

Jesse has a Marlin 336 of mine now and I should be getting it back any day now. I'm having it rebored from the original 30/30 to 38/55. Will probably be sending him a sporterized M1903A3 to rechamber/rebore to 35 Whelen.

I've seen nothing but great reviews of his work.

just out of curiosity what type of machine re-bores barrels? Like the gidding an lewis boring machines or are they specialized? and how?

I've had the Marlin 336 I had rebored back in my hands for a few weeks now and today I was finally able to get to the range. After sorting out a problem with the rifle as it came from the factory, the front sight was loose in the dovetail, the rest of the trip was flawless. The gun feeds and ejects flawlessly and I managed to shoot a 1 1/2" group at 50 yards its open sights and while wearing bifocals. My single vision glasses were in my other range bag.

I would recommend J. E. S. Reboring to anyone wanting to do something like this to one of their rifles. He offers several calibers and does work on lever, bolt, pump, and single shot rifles. I have a sporterized M1903A3 that may become a 35 Whelen sometime in the near future.
