I'm installing a EGW rail to mount a scope on a Winchester XPR rifle, one hole on the gun will not take the screw it turns twice and gets very tight, the screw came out silver but threads were not damaged, afraid to tighten any more than 2 turns as I'm thinking the screw will break off.

any ideas for a easy fix ?

Find a local Smith with the correct tap size to run through the hole. You can order one from brownells too. Most base screws are a 6-48. If it’s trashed you can rethread it with a 8-40 but will need new screws.
