How do I clean this/make it pretty?

I recently picked up a 1911, and I noticed the bolt had some funny stains and marks on it, I tried using some rem-oil to just wipe it down to see if it would break free and was wipeable but the stain is lingering, also you can see there are some scratches along it... Is there a way to make this guy nice and clean again?

1000 grit sandpaper. Like you are polishing the toe of your boots.

BTW, that is the barrel...

1500 grit paper or some OOOO steel wool. Sand blast it and cerakote it. several options.

Total brain fart there, I definitely knew that! Thanks for the recs, gonna hit it with some sandpaper and wool.
