    does this actually work? Seems like its kinda funny, but could also be helpful for places (bloomington) where you cant go shooting in town.

    I wonder if, with a strong enough firing pin spring, a 1911 can be converted into a dart gun for the purpose of cat extermination without waking the neighbors.

    Just gave it a try. Pretty cool drill! About 12" of tape wrapped around the pencil gave a decent .45 caliber bushing for the pencil.

    It was light enough that the pencil would slide out at about 15deg down angle.


    First thing I noticed is that you need to run the drill from 3" or less to really be effective. Outside of that, there is too much drop in the pencil. Will put it through the chrony next to figure out the balistics... :):

    This is a drill that has been around for a long time.

    Don't dismiss it too soon. It has its benefits.

    Most 1911s are very accurate (as are most pistols for that matter). They deliver a round precisely where they are pointed.

    Time spent honing shooter skills instead of honing the pistol often pays better dividends.
