I'm just curious. I understand the love for the 1911, and I would like to add one to my collection someday, but I see guys asking about 1911s in 9mm all the time, and just can't understand why more don't go with the HP. The feel in the hand is amazing. Great accuracy. 13 + 1 or 15+ 1 with mec- gar mags. History going back to 1935. Just thought I would put that out there to see if anyone else ever thought about this.

And the HP was started by JMB. He pass be it was finished.
As for the 1911, for me it must be .45

The 1911 platform is very diluted. Hell, even Taurus makes one. You're right though-SAO 9mm, definitely BHP (no grip safety).
    COLT 1970A1CS on my hip.

    I have a 1911 in 9mm, along with one in .45.
I chose the 1911 over the High Power because every time I shoot a High Power I bleed, the slide tears the web of my hand up. With in the first mag me and the gun are covered in blood.

    I don't understand the whole 9mm 1911. I want a 1911 for the awesome 45 acp.

After I shot my friends Feg Hi Power I fell in love with the gun. It feels even better in the hand and is accurate as hell.

I have to agree, sadly I sold my Hi-power to a friend who fell in love with it, But to this day I have never had a auto-loader fit my hand any better than the Hi-Power. It's just a wonderful gun to shoot. One of these days I will have one done by Cylinder and Slide, one of my dream guns...

I love 1911s, but have not found the need for one in 9mm. I used to have a Hi Power, but sold it a while back after buying a CZ 75. The Hi Powers are nice, but the CZ fits me much better and are a lot more affordable for a nice one. In my world, a 1911 needs to be in .45 and a 9mm needs to be a CZ.

I do kind of miss the HP though, come to think of it.

Ehh never really cared for Hi-Powers personally I like my Sig's better if we are going with a double stack 9MM. The 1911 in either 45ACP or 9MM is still king though amazing guns especially when bought from the likes of Dan Wesson or Wilson Combat.

That sounds like a nice world.

Ok, the bleeding hand thing makes sense. I would not want one if that happened every time I shot it either. And you CZ guys convinced me to buy a CZ, and it is awesome, but for me the Hi-Power still wins out as most awesome. And as far as cost, they are about the same as a good 1911, and some of the clones are just as awesome. Now if you must have 45 ACP, then the HP is not for you, but if 9mm works, then the HP makes a lot of sense. By the way, Dunham's has 9mm mega packs UMC for $64.99! That's $11 a box. That is a lot of bang for your buck:):

I've not had an opportunity to try a HP. It's on my list, somewhere....
Maybe the next time you head south to meet up with your CZ buddies, you can stop by and try one out. I'm on your way, and have my own range. It will only cost you your brass.

The HP is a marvelous pistol. I think any collector has to have one.
for every day use, I choose Sigs.

I have both. Before I go any farther. I also have a BHP in .40 and I hate it.

I love 1911s. I also believe they should be in .38Super or .45acp to be 1911s.
I have my dad's old HP made in the late 30s and it's still a great gun in great condition. I've fired hundreds of rounds through it and it's been flawless. COMPLETELY original. No spring changes, nothing. Original mags also. All work just fine.
Between the two choices I'll take the BHP in 9mm.

Had a BHP and DW Guardian 1911 in 9MM, Kept the 9MM 1911. Honestly I loved the BHP but found the ergonomics of the 1911 to be superior and way easier to customize to suit my needs, not to mention parts more plentiful.

I have shot both and have owned a surplus Hi Power. I eventually sold my P35 because the sights were marginal and the trigger was heavy. Earlier this year I rented a newer production BHP and I was bitten by the Hi Power bug again. One will make its way into my collection sometime before November.

As for the 1911 I have shot a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm, Colt Series 80, Nighthawk GRP, Randall, and another Colt that I can't remember the model. Either way the 9mm Springfield was fun to shoot, the Colts I didn't care for, and the Randall and GRP were a blast to shoot. If I had the money I would highly consider getting a GRP. I have heard nothing but awesome things about Dan Wesson 1911's, I don't know how they stack up against a Nighthawk, but I bet it will be close.

Another problem I have with the BHP is quantity of quality. No doubt the 1911 platform is diluted but that cuts both ways, there is an infinite number of 1911 manufacturers that at the very least meet the quality of the best BHP.
If you want a quality Hi power for carry duty and don't like browning or want to destroy your 1965 MK1 your choices are very limited and likely irreplaceable.
