So I want to have a 2011 high cap built but can't decide on what caliber it is going to be. I'm thinking a Infinity Ultra Match bull barrel, stainless Caspian slide, and a AllenM trigger job....but what caliber? This will be a 5" open sighted piece... No red dots or big 4" comp on the end. 38 Super? 10mm? How about a 9x25? This is not going to be a EDC piece, just for fun at the range. Any ideas?

Doc I love my 10mm. It is just a serious crowd pleaser especially running full house underwood.
I picked up a 2nd one from Allen a few weeks ago. It is a commander with a bobbed grip. Allen has it back doing a re-color to match the 2011 and put ports in the Hybrid barrel.

    Do the 10mm.

JMHO of course. Nothing at all wrong with the other choices you list.

10mm is an awesome round and I had one years ago in a glock just not a 1911/2011. I was thinking about a 5" in 9mm simply because I already have that in my ammo inventory. No need for a 45, already have that one covered. Guess I will have to put some more thought into this.....

I just picked up a Colt O1992 in 9mm. I have not shot it yet, but am hoping to over the course of the holidays.

My last build from Allen was a 9mm Commander with a Infinity ultra match bull barrel and Caspian slide. It shoots like a laser! Little to no recoil and just makes a ragged hole. That's why I was leaning towards a 2011 build in 9mm with a 5" slide... But then I found the 9x25 and that has me intrigued.

10mm is a lot of fun, but I will say the most fun gun I've ever shot was Allen's 2011 in .40. Wow. I still drool over that one.

I have also had some trigger time with one of his 40s. I'm just not a fan of the 40. I did shoot one of his 2011s in 9 and it made me grin ear to ear. What to do.....

What you do is come shoot my 6" 2011 Hybrid in 10mm. Then you know exactly what to do.....

I'm pretty much a 38SA evangelist, but I must say the Dillon is a hoot, and a very powerful round. If you can find someones to shoot, give it a try (but only go this route if you reload)

If it's for fun at the range, 9mm. No question!

If you might shoot in USPSA, .40S&W.

If you intend to shoot 3-gun events without power factors or steel challenge, 9mm.

If you may want to use it for hunting, 10mm.

I love my OLD 1911s in .38 Super. Mine are old Colts and in great shape still.
They're pretty much safe Kings now.
I'm old fashioned and believe a 1911 is made for the 45acp or 38 Super. A 2011 can be any caliber.
