Hey...we have all had tough times now and then and bills to pay, mortgages, college tuition, etc. Or maybe you just sold or traded for something different? Either way, we all have a few we miss for one reason or another. What are your favorite handuns you let slip away? Top...3!

(In the case of my top 3, I know I will likely never own them again due to cost. And while it is a bit of a bummer I had to let them go all those years ago...it was for a good cause and benefited my family...so no real regrets. Sometimes life just happens!) But still...

Not sure how long it's been now, I'm thinking around 6yrs ago or so I was in my LGS and they had just opened a shipment and inside was 4 NIB Hk P7 PSP hard chrome with German proof marks and NO import markings. $900/piece. It was the first time I had seen or really knew of the P7. Looking back I should've bought all 4. Sadly I didn't even buy 1.

    I once traded a Colt LW Commander for a Glock-19 in 1993.
Glocks still worth $350, Colt now $850.
Could have had a TRX M-14 cline for $750 around then and passed.

I had a P7-M13 and got rid of it. Wish I had kept it and the spare mags. I don't even remember where I sold or traded it. I just remember getting some 9mm that was loaded light and it didn't function right so I got rid of it. 9mm wasn't all that back then as far as HD rounds so I never carried it.

Would probably be my carry weapon if I still had it. Won't spend the money on another one now...

    1. S&W 586 6"
    2. Ruger Single-six Convertible
    3. Remington 870

Sold the 586 to buy a Model 29
Sold the Ruger to buy a Browning Buckmark
Sold the 870 because I won it in a sales contest and it wasn't a Wingmaster. Dumb.

That was all done around 25+ years ago.

I finally found a 586 to replace the one I sold. And yes, it was tough to pay almost double what I sold mine for way back then. But I got a 4" which I prefer.
I have a really sweet Model 617 so I don't really miss the Ruger, though those SA's are cool.
I picked up an Ithaca M37 awhile back which doesn't really replace the 870, but it's close.

Still have the 29, but the Buckmark is long gone.

I managed a pawn shop back in 1997. A guy came in at the end of the day and said his wife gave him an ultimatum to get rid of his handgun by the end of the day. It was Colt 1911 stamped US Government. It had an upgraded barrel and an adjustable trigger. He sold it to the store for $100. I could have easily given the store $150 and taken it home. I'm not a .45 guy, so I passed. Dumb.

In 1985 I let a 4 inch S&W Model 66-1 go for $300. We were starting out and poor. Full disclosure I bought it for $275 used in 1983. I see M-66s at shows for $800.

I picked up a Model 19-5 from an INGOer a couple years back so in my head it replaced the M66, but that one will always be the one that got away.

In the days of my youth the E. Christopher Firearms store in Miamitown, Ohio had a cased pair of Colt Single Actions, one nickle-plated .44/40 and a blued .45 with 7.5" barrels. I don't think I'd ever seen anything so beautiful in my life. Bill wanted $750 for them. That was just too big a percentage of my poke at the time.

I've been kicking myself ever since. I don't even want to think about what that brace of hoglegs must be worth now.

Not one I had and let go, but one I should have bought. CZ 75BD police. At a store I stopped by when traveling another part of the state last fall. Haven't been in that area since, doubt if they still have it. I'm sure they made more than one, so maybe someday:)

In 1973 I bought and sold a beautiful new Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357. I fired less than 50 rounds through it. 1986 traded a pretty Model 700 BDL .243 with Redfield 4x12 variable scope for a new Browning Citori over and under 12 gauge skeet gun. Fell on bad times and had to sell the Citori to make my house payment. No Citori or Model 19 now but I still have the house.

1903-A3 Sniper Rifle....got crazy money out of it...still miss it for what it represented in history...

My father's Model 39 Smith and Wesson....let's just say it was in someone else possession other than mine or my father's in the 1980's. I still have the box, mags, original receipt...have serial number memorized....maybe someday I'll see it.

I traded a nicket 586 for a CZ Compact once. That 586 had the best trigger I've felt on any gun before or since. But, I was dumb and wanted a CZ. Another one I wish I had kept was a Springfield 1911. It was nothing special except for it having been my first handgun I ever owned. I traded that one for a S&W 66, so it kind of makes up for letting the 586 go.

66's are nice pistols. Really not much different than the 586 and you probably won't shoot enough .357's to cause any harm to that 66. Plus the 66's depending on barrel length are a little better balanced.

Some even say they are smoother. I have no experience to confirm nor deny that. Plus I do action jobs on my Smith's anyway so they all are smooth.:)

And they didn't make very many 586's in nickel
